A Pledge to America: The Fall 2010 GOP Agenda (48 pages)
US House GOP Conference ^ | 09/23/2010 | US House GOP

Posted on 09/23/2010 2:27:39 PM PDT by iowamark

""America is more than a country.

America is an idea – an idea that free people can govern themselves, that government’s powers are derived from the consent of the governed, that each of us is endowed by their Creator with the unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. America is the belief that any man or woman can – given economic, political, and religious liberty – advance themselves, their families, and the common good.

America is an inspiration to those who yearn to be free and have the ability and the dignity to determine their own destiny.

Whenever the agenda of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to institute a new governing agenda and set a different course.

These first principles were proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence, enshrined in the Constitution, and have endured through hard sacrifice and commitment by generations of Americans.

In a self-governing society, the only bulwark against the power of the state is the consent of the governed, and regarding the policies of the current government, the governed do not consent.

An unchecked executive, a compliant legislature, and an overreaching judiciary have combined to thwart the will of the people and overturn their votes and their values, striking down longstanding laws and institutions and scorning the deepest beliefs of the American people.

An arrogant and out-of-touch government of self-appointed elites makes decisions, issues mandates, and enacts laws without accepting or requesting the input of the many.

Rising joblessness, crushing debt, and a polarizing political environment are fraying the bonds among our people and blurring our sense of national purpose."

How about a pledge to vet the President? Is he Constitutionally legitimate, or isn’t he?

48 pages??

Yesterday, it was 21 pages...

This is getting into “Nobody has time to read it”, or, “Gotta pass it to find out what’s in it” territory.....

I just love these folks who say....read the pledge, read the pledge.

What good is it to read the pledge when you don’t have 2 weeks and 2 lawyers to tell ya what’s in the pledge.

Sarcasm switch....off.

What happened to the Republican Platform that comes out of the Republcan National Convention? The one that is worked on by “grassroots” Republicans from each state instead of by the Washington ruling class.

They will all have to get elected before we know what is in it!

Not sure what to think about all this hype. They’ve had plenty of time to come up with all this information. They tried this before with the Contract with America. They kept their word long enough for the sheeple to fall asleep again. My money is on this thing being another shell game.

Y’all had your chance. Now get the hell outta the way and let some real Americans have a shot at it.

The CNN (unscientific) poll shows a huge (not hugh) majority do not like it.

Anyone know where I can find a copy that will not take 2 ink cartridges to print all of the pictures?

I can understand if a person cannot read. It took me to slow read it in 38 minutes (slow since I wanted to really understand it). Excellent pictures and look at them all. And plenty of time before election. If you are to lazy to take the time that is your problem.

Long on fluff...
Short on substance.

And the meek shall inherit... what exactly?

I sense a bigger, drawn-out, painful mess.

“They will all have to get elected before we know what is in it!”

I guess I should have put a (sarc) after my comment, above. It was a slam on their integrity, based on pelosi’s comment on the health bill.

Sorry you didn’t understand the joke. I read the pledge. Not that reading it is going to make a lot of difference. Most of the Republicans, like the Dems, can’t keep their word. It’s time to drain the swamp and get some new blood in there.

One thing in the pledge that I don’t agree with:

“We will make it illegal for an insurance company to deny coverage to someone with prior coverage on the basis of
a pre-existing condition, eliminate annual and lifetime spending caps, and prevent insurers from dropping your coverage just because you get sick.”

Federal government intervention into health care IS a major problem with health care. The GOP STILL doesn’t get it.
