Group protests Christian concert at Fort Bragg

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A Christian event on Saturday for Fort Bragg soldiers and members of the surrounding area is unconstitutional and should be canceled, according to a national watchdog group.

Americans United for the Separation of Church and State said in a statement Thursday that the planned event — a concert and other activities called "Rock the Fort" — improperly enlists the military in a bid by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association to win Christian converts.

The Charlotte-based ministry has sponsored similar events on military bases around the country. According to the BGEA's website, Saturday's event in Fayetteville is different because civilians as well as military personnel will be able to attend.

"Chaplains at the fort identified 20 churches in the area where most soldiers are involved," the site says. "The churches are now walking alongside chaplains from Fort Bragg, hosting training and praying for this event." aith while serving in the Army.

IIRC, 18th Airborne Corps headquarters, 82nd Airborne, US Army Special Operations Command and the special warfare school (where they train spec ops soldiers).

I have often wondered how the United Church of Christ justifies the continued credentialing of American’s United’s CEO Rev. Barry Lynn.

How could anyone possibly construe his employment as a ministry of Word and Sacrament?

Tell them to piss off and have the concert. Let them sue and tell the ACLU Commies to piss off also. Bring it to the courts and tell them to piss off.

When the call the cops to do something about the event, praise the cops for all their hard work and bring them up on stage to a rousing standing ovation.

No one is being forced to attend, and I doubt that the military is paying for it, so STFU. (sorry don-o)

Oh the horror. Some ADULTS might decide to become Christians. We can't have any of that free exercise of religion stuff going on, you know.

Has it escaped the notice of these busybodies with too much free time on their hands, that the military provides chaplains for its soldiers?

Unless the soldiers are under orders to attend and to convert, they need to mind their own stinkin' business.

America needs all the prayers it can get. These losers need to shut up. It isn’t about separation of church and state. It is about silencing Christians. Well, we are sick of our rights being trampled and I will not be silenced.

What really ticks me off is that if it were a muslim gathering, we wouldn’t hear a peep!
