Remember That Business About Healthcare Being Cheaper and You Could Keep You Coverage…

...well, we are finding out now that millions of seniors will have to change their Medicare prescription plans because of “double-digit hikes” in costs.

Premiums will go up an average of 10 percent among the top 10 drug plans that have signed up about 70 percent of seniors, according to an analysis of Medicare data by Avalere Health, a private research firm.

Marketing for next year’s drug plans gets under way Oct. 1, and seniors will see some of the biggest changes since the Medicare prescription benefit became available in 2006. More than 17 million are enrolled in private drug plans offered through Medicare.

Oh, so costs are going to go up?

Well, then what about keeping your plan if you like it?

More than 3 million seniors will see their plans discontinued, according to Avalere. Medicare says all but 300,000 will be seamlessly switched to another plan offered by the same insurer, but the Avalere data suggest it may not be that simple.

Oh, so you can’t keep your plan if you like it?

Boy, this Obamacare thingie sure seems a tad different than the Obammessiah told us it would be. Isn’t it?

Gee, I wonder what else with Obamacare is not quite what Obama claimed it was going to be?

“We need to pass it so we can see what’s in it” - Nancy Pelosi, 2010

Yea, just like we need to look down the barrel and pull the trigger to see if it is loaded.

Given the changes that went into effect today, and a whole lot of premiums of all sorts are going to go up October 1. I think the 'rats miscalculated badly on this one.

Our 83yo neighbor’s Doctor just dropped Medicare insured patients. She was with him for 26 years since he setup practice in our town. No answer from the persons in his office as to why. I told her the answer is Obamacare!

My elderly mother has private insurance in addition to medicare. Her premium has increased 100% in the past 6 months. 100%! In addition to this, when I went to pick up her prescriptions at the beginning of the month as I have been doing for the past 8 years, the amount I was required to pay was nearly twice as much for the same prescriptions. I asked the cashier if she could check if that was right, and she showed me how her co-pays have all increased as of this month. Now, I pay for my mother’s prescriptions as I feel it’s the least I could do to help her out after all she’s done for me throughout my life. I handle my mother’s bills because things have gotten hard for her the past few years, with my father passing away and all. Last week when it was cold up here in northern NY my mother wouldn’t turn her heat on. I told her if she was cold to turn it on-— she has money in the bank, can afford it, pays her bills. But she has a lot of health problems and is afraid she won’t be able to pay her medical bills under Obamacare. My point is she has money, owns her own home, lives frugally as one who lived through the depression, and yet is paranoid that her healthcare costs under Obama will ruin her financially, leaving nothing for her to live on or pass on to her family. I’ve taken to trying to hide the bills when an increase in premium bill comes in her mail. How in the world is this an improvement to the healthcare system???!!!

Oh, and she has Medicare part B premiums taken directly out of her social security— does anyone know how much these premiums will increase?

My hair-dresser self-insures and her premiums have gone way up, so she needs to drop and go to a lesser insurance for a higher price. As is, she pretty much only pays catastrophic coverage, and bleeds for it. My insurance premiums are going up at work, as are co-pays, deductibles, and what they cover is going down. Thanks, Obama.

My insurance went up almost double and dropped my drug plan. I can’t afford it and it’s only a supplement policy. Now Medicare is going to collapse and in my old age I will have no insurance. Oh well, my great grandparents had no doctors either. Guess I’ll have to go quietly into that good night.

“figured out a way to blame this on the TEA Party people.”
I have already heard that this was not what they planned, but had to compromise with the Republicans and the Tea Party factions.
SPIN!!!

Of course, this is the basic plan - suck everybody dry. To be honest, it's always been the tendency. Care for the elderly is by nature vampiric. I mean, there they sit. I do think it's being racheted up a few notches, though.

When Social Security was passed, the plan was to tax everyone up to age 62, then pay benefits. Life expectancy was 59.

When Medicare was passed, the plan was to tax everyone up to age 65 and 6 months, then pay insure retirees. Along come DeathCare to kill them off when they need coverage.

RATs hate old people.
