A Nicaraguan diplomat was found dead in his Bronx apartment with his throat slashed yesterday when his driver came to pick him up for the UN General Assembly meeting, police sources said.
The body of Cesar Mercado, 34, was found shortly after 10:30 a.m. when his driver opened the door of his Grand Concourse apartment and saw him on the floor in a pool of blood, cops said.
Investigators are probing the possibility that the killing was caused by a gay relationship gone wrong, police sources said.
The sound of men arguing was heard in the apartment before the murder, and neighbors said Mercado was sometimes seen with dangerous-looking men, the sources said.
"I saw him often with young men who looked like they were unsavory," said a woman who lived in his building.
A co-worker told cops Mercado was depressed, lost weight and had recently said he had tested positive for AIDS, the sources said.

I am so-so about it being a gay break up, solely because it wasn’t violent enough. If he had been stabbed like 40 times, mostly around the genital area, it would have been a slam dunk as a gay thing. But just having his throat slashed? Anybody’s guess.
That’s because us selfish crackers are not wanting to spend more than $800K to teach em how to wash their johnson.
