FROM LAKE ONTARIO TO GAZA: Toronto Cruise to Raise Funds to Send a Canadian Boat to Gaza
TORONTO, Sept. 23 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada's largest river showboat, the Jubilee Queen, has been chartered for an evening dedicated to supporting a Canadian humanitarian voyage to Gaza.
On Saturday Sept. 25, a sunset cruise on Lake Ontario aboard the "Queen" will raise funds for a Canadian mission as part of the Free Gaza Flotilla Movement in the eastern Mediterranean. "This will give people the taste of being on the boat although the trip to Gaza is not expected to be enjoyable in the same way this evening promises to be," said Sandra Ruch, of the Canadian Boat to Gaza steering committee.
The Sept. 25 Toronto fundraiser is part of a growing cross-country effort to send a Canadian ship with the next international flotilla challenging the blockade of Gaza, which restricts entry of materials into Gaza and does not allow any exports to leave. In May, Israeli commandoes stormed a Free Gaza flotilla in international waters, killing nine on board a Turkish ship, the Mavi Marmara.
Similar fundraising efforts are underway in cities across Canada. The Canadian Boat to Gaza plans to sail before the end of the year. Our sister project, the Audacity of Hope (the US boat to Gaza) raised over $30,000 US on a similar cruise on the Hudson River.
The Jubilee Queen departs at 7 pm from 539 Queens Quay W., just west of Spadina. A Mediterranean buffet on board will feature tastes of the region.
Entertainment includes dancing and music until the ship returns to port at 11 pm.
Boarding passes, including dinner and entertainment, are $75, available by calling (416-716-4010), Beit Zatoun (647-726-9500) or the Women's Bookstore (416-922-8744). Proceeds will go to the Canada Boat to Gaza Committee, a partner of the Free Gaza Movement.
Launched in 1986, the Jubilee Queen is a replica of luxury sternwheelers that used to ply inland waters. Appointments include spacious salons, Tiffany lamps, a large patio sundeck, two fully licensed cash bars and comfortable seating.
The Spadina-Harbourfront streetcar stops near the dock. For those driving to the ship, underground parking is a few feet away.

Canadian Boat to GAZA
It's time to send a Canadian Boat to Gaza
Canadian civil society has a responsibility to fight the illegal Israeli blockade of Gaza and to expose the Canadian government's unjustified support for Israel.
The time has come to send a Canadian boat to challenge the blockade of Gaza, in coordination with similar international efforts.
We need to raise $300,000 (cost of boat and crew, not including aid to carry to Gaza) over the course of the coming couple of months. We need to approach Canadian public figures to be on the boat.
The blockade of Gaza goes two ways, it restricts bringing materials into Gaza and it does not allow anything to leave Gaza either. This, in addition to starving the population, denies the Palestinians of Gaza the ability to trade with the world, further suffocating them.
The Canadian boat, working with the Palestinians in Gaza, will aim to carry exports out of Gaza. Thus asserting their right to export, trade and provide for themselves rather than be at the mercy of international aid.
together we'll break the siege

Israel, if they come, sink it.
To: Stoat
What deserves to happen is what all too often happens to Israelis who have to live side by side with terrorists.
The people on this boat should have to deal with the stark conditions terrorist rain down on Israel constantly.
I’m not going to do something myself. I wouldn’t urge anyone else to do something. I’m just saying, karma and all, what they want to go around, should come around first.
There actually are some instances of being too stupid for words, in my estimation.

I was going to say ‘torpedo alert!’ but that jackass looked so doggone sad, I couldn’t do it.
Anyway, if the idiots make it into Gaza (not going to happen) perhaps they can spend some time shopping in that lovely new mall.
To: SusaninOhio
We ought to set up a pool for how long it’s going to take for some faction or other to set off a bomb in that mall.

Im just saying, karma and all, what they want to go around, should come around first. If they aren't aware of it already, they need to learn that when you advertise the fact that you intend to aid a terrorist network, in violation of international law which includes a fully-militarized blockade, that sometimes bad things tend to happen.
Some people just learn very slowly and occasionally need a helping hand, it seems.

Israel, if they come, sink it. Considering the precedent that was set the last time, my hope is that this will be used as an opportunity to perform some live tests on any new stealth torpedo technologies that our Israeli Friends might be developing.
It's such a shame when these various Pro-Palestinian groups hire these antiquated Turkish vessels with faulty boilers and sub-standard construction, isn't it? They tend to blow up for no apparent reason......

Yes, I agree.
I think the image most folks have of the West Bank and Gaza is some vacant lot with people sitting and sleeping on dirt and going hungry each day except for a slice of bread and a tea cup of water. And of course this is Israel’s fault.
Perhaps Israel’s biggest mistake, was not explaining to the world loudly and clearly what the actually circumstances on the West Bank and Gaza are.
I suspect a lot of sympathy for the Palestinians would quickly evaporate if they did.
We’ve got instigators and brain dead sheep, conspiring to do the things like what is planned here. Some of them you have to have anger for and the others you’re conflicted about whether to pitty them or wish them their ill-begotten just rewards.

I’ll Go For “Ship Of Fools”.
I still remember the Boston Pops playing the Theme Song from the movie of the same name, called “Bremerhaven Welcomes You.” It sounded, for all the world, like a Nazi March.
