I think this use of "glass parking lot" refers to the aftermath of a nuclear blast, turning sand into glass. At least, that's the way I took it.
When this case blows, it may be "nuclear" in proportion, metaphorically speaking.

Personally I envision democrats parking an increasing number of cars on a suspended sheet of glass. It can only hold up to so much strain and the valets are working overtime.
