Blackmail from Bureaucrats: When the Market Won't Respond to Government Intrusion on Health Reform
Center for Health Transformation ^ | 9/20/2010 | Newt Gingrich and Nancy Desmond

In the summer of 2009 when the Obama Administration first started discussing health care reform, the White House issued an edict. If anyone started spreading anything it deemed “misinformation” about its plans, offenders could be reported to the government at flag@whitehouse.gov.

It was an effort to get Americans to snitch on each other. Not only didn’t it work, it revealed the heavy-handedness of an Administration desperate to get its health care agenda adopted.

Here we are more than a year later and the President has an unpopular health care law in the throes of implementation, and the threats from the Administration continue.

Just last weekend, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius publicly warned private insurance companies not to blame rate hikes on the new healthcare law, noting “there will be zero tolerance for this type of misinformation.”

But the “misinformation” she was referring to was the very facts experts predicted all along with the passage of the Obama health care reform bill. When insurance companies are forced to cover individuals who didn’t have insurance prior to their illness or emergency, it will force premiums to rise. Imagine the impact on homeowners insurance if homeowners wait until after their house burns down or is damaged in a fire to purchase a policy.

For Secretary Sebelius to bully insurance companies into not sharing their financing analyses strikes many as a violation of free speech. And to warn them against raising their rates so they can cover their costs nothing short of blackmail. It is a threat to try to put them out of business as Sebelius wrote here: http://www.hhs.gov/news/press/2010pres/09/20100909a.html

Health insurance companies are not charities. They are a business. They report to stockholders and investors. They also don’t have access to printing presses to keep creating greenbacks. Only the federal government has the ability to run up the red ink. And with the advent of the Tea Party, we’ve seen how the public feels about that.

At a recent press conference, Obama did an about-face, admitting that health reform was “going to increase our costs – we knew that.” That was the opposite of what he pledged last summer when he said his health reform package would create great savings for the country.

This Administration is in complete disarray when it comes to health reform. Yet it wants to constrain the free speech and free market actions of those of us in the private sector. As long as it remains out of touch with reality, refuses to acknowledge that Americans want to express their opinions about this law and its impact and that corporate America has a right not be put out of business by the government, the President’s approval ratings will plummet. And the majority party is likely to head toward great losses in November.

Healthcare Industry response:

The doubling & tripling of our premiums are in no way a result of Obamacare. We have consulted with the very same scientists, economists, & astrologers as the Obama Admin., & come to the irrefutable conclusion that gravitational influences of the moon are the main cause of our rate increases. We are all simply victims of the tides. Have a nice Day!

If they[the insurance companies executives] want to stay out of prison, they will parrot the company[obama] line. They have already been warned, do not tell the truth.

What the Emperor and elements of his ruling class, particularly Sebelius, haven't realized is we are now ignoring the MSM and actually listing, and worse yet, taking them at their word.

When the health care take over was being debated the word from the throne was - you are not going to be allowed to make a profit.

Now the word from the throne is you can not talk about any and all unfavorable impacts of the health care take over.

In short, the Emperor has put the entire health care industry and all of their employees in a corner. Their only choice is to fight back as hard and as effectively as they can. And the “Community Organizing Emperor” has no clue that he is the source of all these problems.

“was going to increase out costs-—we knew that”

Sure—the Oval Office & the Congress knew that.....

That is why Pelosi said “We will tell you what is in it after we pass the bill”. Not even a hint of the transparency she & the Dems promised. The Dems sure know how to turn a dictionary on it’s head, don’t they?

But they certainly lied to the American people & they also lied to the OMB. Whatever calculations were done by the OMB were done with incomplete & false information.

As a life-long bookkeeper, I cannot prepare your checkbook register or do your financial records if you give me false information.
Blaming me when that comes to light is worse then the original lie.

Few remember before the election that Missouri authorities were threatening people who were alleged to spread so-called false rumors on Obama (tell the truth). Also remember the heavy handed media investigation into Joe the Plumber ?

I hope that they do fight back. And, in my opinion, the “Organizating Emperor” knows exactly what he is doing.
