If you recall... the Republicans were getting steamrolled in the healthcare debate. They weren’t allowed to offer ammendments in the House, and the Senate lacked the votes to support a fillibuster.

Obama’s ratings then were much higher than they are now, so the moderate R’s were probably not inclined to fight too hard. But they just didn’t have the votes in the end.

Where were the Republicans?

Easy enough question to answer ~ they'd been locked out of the hearing rooms by the majority Democrats.

The TEA Party movement didn't even exist at the time.

A substantial number of people who only imagine themselves to be Conservatives will still punishing the Republicans by withholding their votes for them so they couldn't even sustain a filibuster in the Senate.

And now you kvetch about this situation?!

We could have used you in the 2006 and 2008 elections but you got this attitude.

Your children and grandchildren will pay for your sins.

The democrats would not let them read the bill. Did you know they deemed the bill passed? Did you know much of that bill was not yet written? Did you know they have added about 2000 more pages of regulations?

The GOP is pretty far from being perfect, but the democrats are communists.

We are 4 weeks out from November 2nd. Keep this up if you want more democrat bills just as odious as Obamacare.

Nothing, in God’s green Heaven, could have stopped that bill from passing.

Wait a minute.....a “federal” sales tax?

And—what is all this crap about having to “pass” a bill before it can be read to find out what is in it? Or to find out how it “works”? Has any Democrat been called to task to explain when and where this irrationality was ever authorized by the rules committee? Was it ever subjected to a debate on the House floor? All of a sudden several months ago it started appearing in press reporting on Congressional procedures. Where did this insanity come from?

What if we as consumers were told by the FDA that everything in the supermarket was going to be wrapped in brown paper with no labels or ingredient panels, only a price tag, and consumers would have to purchase the item first before being able to unwrap it to find out what was inside. How would that be any worse than what the Congress is doing to us now?

“At the rate Obama is going, it will be a long time before anybody makes a gain from selling their house.”

Big time.

I have read several articles, one from a Century 21 site that give this explanation:
The 3.8% tax applies to tax filers with 250K in yearly income. The 1st 500K of capital gains on a home sales is sheltered for married couples. The 3.8 tax would apply to any gain above 500K.

So if this is true, why would congress pass a new tax that will apply to nearly no one? The health care industry takeover includes increases in all taxes and introductions of new taxes and needs 16,000 new IRS agents. I’m starting to think this 3.8% tax is a diversion for something more evil.

I believe you left out the $250k/500k exclusion that would make your example $0 for taxes.
