Bob Schieffer: Tom Daschle an "Interesting Choice" for Obama Chief of Staff
CBS ^ | Sep. 28, 2010 | Christine Delargy

Posted on 09/28/2010 2:45:42 PM PDT by fightinJAG

While speculation has wielded mostly around senior advisor Pete Rouse as White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel's replacement should he run for mayor of Chicago, CBS News Chief Washington Correspondent Bob Schieffer went on the record Tuesday with another pick-- former Senate majority leader Tom Daschle.

"The president could do worse than Tom Daschle," Schieffer said. "I'm not in the business of advising presidents on who to hire or what to do, but he would be a very interesting choice."

"Chiefs of staff make an enormous difference in any White House- Republican or Democrat," Schieffer told CBS News' Jan Crawford in an appearance on "Washington Unplugged" Tuesday. Daschle "really knows the Hill and really knows the issues."

Friggin’ Saruman would make a good choice, too, by that logic..

Daschle could be very helpful coordinating with the Dem Senate minority.

And that will be the major focus of the WH through 2012.

Precisely. And he has experience with quite a few Rinos - knows how to push their buttons or pull their chains.

Anyone have that loser picture of Daschle sitting in the chair in the empty room in his Mr. Rogers sweater waiting to give the Demoncrats response to Bush’s SOU address?

"They simply don’t make ‘em any sleazier than Tom Daschle."

How true. Consider all of the rigged elections the guy won in South Dakota through Indian reservation ballot box stuffing. Daschle would fit right into Obama's corrupt anti-American regime.

Oh, yeah. That was a good one.

The thing I like about Daschle for this position is that he is steeped in the old D.C., before the internet really got going and there was a Tea Party movement even possible. He will be clueless about the new, real political zeitgeist.

Never happen

Obama needs sycophants yes people to surround him so not to challenge his huge ego

Little tommy was senate majority leader and far more qualified to be POTUS than zero so that only would preclude him
Narcissist never have more qualified people report to them

Daschle has certainly got the soft-spoken, non-threatening liar thug act down to science; this seems to be one of the Democrat’s most effective avatar models. One problem is that they’ve got so many of copies of this model in the system already.

There might be issues with the top guy too. Daschle is about as white as a man can be. Two strikes against him right there.

I agree with you. Daschle isn't in the inner circle and isn't a Chicago thug. Barry seems to be burrowing into his bunker right now and won't want an outsider or any gratuitous advice.

“The president could do worse than Tom Daschle,” Schieffer said.

Yeah, and his track record so far suggests that he probably will...

Chief of Staff is primarily a political position -- you need somebody who knows the ropes in Congress, knows the operations of the Executive Branch, and has a keen grasp of policy.

Powell is very intelligent ... but he's not that kind of intelligent. Daschle is ... but the objections to him have already been aired above.

Pretty sure it'll go to one of the Inner Circle. Valerie Jarrett would be a fun choice...
