A series of polls out this week show that Strickland has narrowed the gap against Republican challenger John Kasich, and the Democratic Governors Association plans to move more money into Strickland's race with a new ad buy launching later this week. Other races in the state look difficult for Democrats, too, but party strategists point out that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is spending more money in the Buckeye State this fall than in any other state.
Nationally, Democratic strategists believe holding the ultimate swing state's governorship will be crucial to President Obama's re-election efforts next year, and in an interview aboard his campaign bus on Tuesday, Strickland suggested that it would give Obama a better shot at a second term. ....
The Democrats' strategy for Ohio relies on swamping Republicans in mobilization efforts, and Kelly said the party is tracking early votes daily and considers every day Election Day now that the early period has begun. That is largely the message for Obama Democrats, especially those concerned with 2012.
The impending presidential campaign was also on Strickland's mind during a Tuesday afternoon rally at the University of Akron.
"We are coming after you Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin and Tim Pawlenty and all of the right-wing extremists," Strickland shouted to the cheering crowd. "We are coming after you in 2012, and we will reelect Barack Obama to be a second-term president of the United States of America."

Hmm, because if the Governor is a Dem, the State will be a lot less likely to investigate vote fraud?
Kasich will win this going away.
I would rather this race “tighten up” to keep Republican voters engaged and not complacent.
What say you?
The AFSCME crowd working the welfare offices have registered 100,000 new voters this year. They have a voting card in one hand and a welfare check in the other.
They don’t care about no stinkin’ jobs.
Ted’s got his ‘I know your angry, well, I’m angry too.’ commercials going. Even though he campaigned in 2004 on “Jobs” and we’ve lost over 400,000. DHL and NCR moved to other states. We lost a Honda plant to Indiana because of our business ‘non’ climate.
Kasich’s been protrayed as a ‘Wall Street’ insider because of his connection to Lehman Brothers.
One day poll blip. From the same polling company which only two days found the race down to two points:
Election 2010: Ohio Governor
Ohio Governor: Kasich (R) Keeps Lead Over Strickland (D)
Wednesday, September 29, 2010 Email to a Friend ShareThis
Republican John Kasich now holds an eight-point lead over Democratic incumbent Ted Strickland in Ohios gubernatorial race.
The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters shows Kasich picking up 50% of the vote, while Strickland draws support from 42% with leaners are included Three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate, and four percent (4%) are undecided.
Kasich needs to push his experience on the Budget ways and means committee in Congress. He has all the experience we need.
9/28/10 -- What little polling we have seems to show Miller with a substantial lead in the three-way race. Murkowski actually seems to be splitting the anti-Miller vote with McAdams. In addition, she's having some troubles with the write-in campaign; the early campaign ad that actually misspelled her last name sums up the difficulties she faces.
Good point. I, like many Ohio voters, am planning an absentee ballot. You don't even need to give a reason. I may have to think that out again as those seem to be the easiest to simply leave in the basket.
How does poll-watching work, anyway. Who are they and where do "they" come from?
Freepers, kindly take note of this post that cites the most recent Rasmussen Poll on the Ohio Governor Race. I bring this up only because the Obama Media TV, Blog or print is setting you up touting a Strckland comeback. Strickland can come back in only one way. That way is if “Our” side stays home on election day. So.....just forget what these folks are ranting about Strickland or any other Democrat and get out and vote to totally destroy the anti-American, failed Democrat Party. Remember In November!!!! Vote for John Kasich and all other Republicans on Election Day, November 2, 2010!!!
One reason. Strickland has gone heavy negative on John Kasich in regards to "Wall Street", "outsourcing" and NAFTA.
Can Kasich win this thing or is Strickland going to pull a come from behind?
Strickland is still deeply unpopular. His polls have not gone up at all but he has brought Kasich's down
I guess those dnc attack ads making Kasich out to be a big business, wall street kind of guy are having an effect on the Kasich race? Not that there aren’t any, but...I haven’t seen any Kasich ads. I hope he’s not counting on the dummy implosion to carry him through?
OK so the last three polls are Kasich by 5 (U of Cincy), up by 2 (Fox News) and up by 8 (Rassmusen)
In comparison to the Senate race where Portman (R) is up double didgits in each.
“Hmm, because if the Governor is a Dem, the State will be a lot less likely to investigate vote fraud?”
thats a good point but having a Governorship in any state usually gives the same party’s Pres candidate an extra 2 - 4 points if the Gov is doing ok. this is in part of the Govs political machine and free media as well as having an in state donor base and volunteer network.
Per RCP, Rasmussen now has Kasich back up by 8, 50-42.
Don’t get too excited Ted... your “rally” was just a spasm. You can go back to your funk now.
“I would rather this race tighten up to keep Republican voters engaged and not complacent.”
I received a call from the GOP Ohio Victory call center. The lady said we only have 3 people who volunteered tonight. They were worried about republicans being too complacent. They also feel they are exagerating the distance between the two candidates to keep R’s at home on voting day.
Many of the teachers that I work with are really pissed off at Strickland. He is lengthening the school year and he told districts that they don’t have to pay teachers more for the additional days. He is taking away our calamity days. This year we only have three inclement weather days, and next year we will have none. He is putting more accountability on teachers (which I’m okay with) while holding students and parents unaccountable.
