The NRA has become a joke. They worked out a special deal to get themselves excluded from the DISCLOSE ACT. The hell with free speech for everyone else.

I understand the NRA’s stated strategy, but disagree strongly. I’m not renewing my membership and will just use that money to donate directly to candidates now.

My email moments ago:
You and the RNC are always after money but then you throw your support behind RINOcrats or in this case, Pelosi by proxy.
I am seriously thinking about giving up my membership over this kind of crap. Give me one good reason you would support the Dem when the republican has a better NRA rating?

I understand the NRA’s stated strategy, but disagree strongly.

I agree with your assessment. NRA just endoresed Chet Culver for Governor of Iowa. Giving the NRA credit, he did sign shall issue legislation into law last year. Of course it passed through a Democratic controlled legislature first, so I believe his signature was more about political expediency than core values.

The main problem I have with the Culver endorsement (even giving the singular focus of the NRA) is that they are wasting their endrosement and potentially money. I pray to God that they are not giving him money.

Culver is something like 20 points down which is astounding for an incumbent governor in Iowa. Credit due on not vetoing the shall issue legislation but honestly, why not sit this one out and not recommend either candidate. Or at least have some kind of differntiation indicating that Brandstad would not have signed the legislation into law.

I understand the NRA's position is to reward incumbents with pro-second amendment voting records. That keeps them focused on the issue the exist for. But it just seems counterintuitive that an organization with such pronounced political influence appears to make short sighted political decisions.

Life member that has asked NRA for some clarification before donating another cent...

Going out of its way to not avoid the dreaded label of being a “partisan” organization. In cases like this the best thing would be not issue an official endorsement or issue a coendorsement of sorts...not try to look “big tent.”

The NRA just doesn’t get it! Lifelong member,,,I have worked for them in campaigns. They claim to be a single issue organization...fine! But when you are defending the Second Amendment and you have a slimeball like Harry Reid trashing the rest of the Constitution...well...his support of the Second Amendment becomes absurd.
NRA has virtually endorsed Reid by featuring him in the American Rifleman and has spoken fondly about his bringing range money to Nevada.
Supporting Reid, Kanjorski, Culver etc. is to perpetuate the Obama left-wing, anti-Second Amendment movement.
Hey NRA, sit back, take no position. In the meantime no campaign funds for you guys this year.

Me too.

I sent them an email telling them I wanted out and wanted a refund.

They promptly sent me a reply saying NFW with refunds and you can only cancel membership via snail mail.

So I de facto QUIT.

The NRA has sure discredited itself in the post-Charlton Heston era with its cozying up to liberals just because they pretend to be pro-gun. The ratings need to take into account not only vote on gun issues per se, but votes on other matters that will harm the interests of gun owners—such as support for Nancy Pelosi as Speaker, or in general, being a Democrat. That there ought to disqualify you from being endorsed.

here is their reply:
Thank you for contacting NRA-ILA.

Fairfax, Va. — The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) is endorsing Paul Kanjorski for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives in Pennsylvania’s 11th Congressional District.

“The NRA-PVF is endorsing Paul Kanjorski because he has defended the Second Amendment freedoms of law-abiding gun owners, hunters and sportsmen in Pennsylvania and across America,” said Chris W. Cox, chairman of the NRA-PVF.

As a member of Congress, Kanjorski has demonstrated his commitment to our Second Amendment rights by voting for legislation to allow permit holders to carry and transport firearms for self-defense in national parks and wildlife refuges, as well as voting for legislation to restore self-defense rights in our nation’s capital. He signed the pro-gun congressional amicus brief to the Supreme Court supporting our individual right to keep and bear arms in the Heller case and signed the pro-gun congressional amicus brief that the Second Amendment guarantees a fundamental right that protects all Americans in the McDonald case. Kanjorski also cosponsored legislation to force much-needed reform at the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

In addition, Kanjorski voted for the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which prevents attempts to bankrupt the American gun industry through bogus lawsuits, and signed a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder opposing the reenactment of the failed Clinton gun ban. He also voted for the Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act that prohibits gun confiscation during states of emergency as happened after Hurricane Katrina.

Paul Kanjorski’s commitment to preserving our right to keep and bear arms has earned him an “A” rating and the endorsement of the NRA-PVF.

“On November 2, I urge all Pennsylvania NRA Members and gun owners in the 11th District to vote Paul Kanjorski for Congress,” Cox concluded.

Chris W. Cox is NRA’s chief lobbyist. He also serves as chairman of NRA-PVF. The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund is responsible for political candidate rankings. These are based on candidate voting records, public statements and responses to NRA-PVF questionnaires.

Again, thank you for your inquiry and please do not hesitate to share any of your thoughts or concerns in the future.

Sincerely,
Kyle C

So the NRA play both cards...endorse the liberal Kanjorski who voted for Obamacare while “rating” Barletta positively.

I guess you know what to do. Thank you sir for the update..
