Perhaps the most basic measure of a countrys character is whether people, when given the chance, flood into the country or risk life and limb to escape from it. By this measure, Muslims are flourishing in America. Meanwhile, though Christianity predates Islam by centuries in the Middle East, intensifying persecution has prompted a mass Christian exodus from that region.
The New York Times recently published a piece with the headline, American Muslims ask, Will we ever belong? And Feisal Abdul Rauf, the Ground Zero mosques would-be imam, defended the mosque on ABCs This Week, saying, My major concern with moving it is that the headline in the Muslim world will be, Islam is under attack in America.
If America were such an unwelcoming country for Muslims, it stands to reason that the number of American Muslims would be decreasing, not increasing. But the opposite is true. Although the U.S. Census Bureau does not collect data on religion, both the Census and the Department of Homeland Security estimate that tens of thousands of immigrants from Muslim countries pour into the United States every year.
The years of highest immigration from the Middle East, moreover, have occurred since 9/11. Nearly 96,000 people from Muslim countries became legal permanent U.S. residents in 2005, the highest number in any year in the previous twenty years.
Some immigrants from the Middle East are Christians escaping persecution (about which more later). But the vast majority are Muslims. Plausible estimates of the number of Muslims in America vary widely, from 1.3 million to five million. But there is a consensus that Muslim Americans share of the population is climbing.

Uh they are by me.
i want them to go away and don’t come back.
Esp if I see a woman mooselimb I want to tell her there is a better way
the weird thing is , they kinda dress the way the nuns did back when I was in Catholic school as a kid.......
Because anyone with a 9th grade education can read and understand living in America is not the goal ... destroying America from within and conquering her for islam IS.
Bauer is right. They aren’t under attack, but they should be (no, not physically...). Their views and practices need to be challenged everywhere.
“Their views and practices need to be challenged everywhere.”
Well put.
They should be, if we want to survive.
Unless they are wearing a skullcap or head covering you probably wouldn’t even know a Muslim by looking at them.
This is not a country where we just go around randomly beating people in the streets (no matter what the Libtards say). Nor would a sane person go out of their way to attack a Muslim just because they WERE wearing a skullcap or headscarf.
They don’t know what abuse is. Let me know when they can’t sit at a lunch counter or only drink from specific fountains. Show me the footage of fire hoses knocking them down and dogs attacking them. Until I see that they can shut up.
“The Land of the Free: Muslims are not under attack in America”
When Islamics have power, how much “freedom” do they show to non-Muslims?
When Islamics have power, who falls “under attack” in their societies?
The unpleasant truth is that Muslims _should_ be “under attack” here in America — and anywhere else where freedom is cherished.
Until we realize that, it is _we_ who are “under attack”, and will remain so.
Another unpleasant truth is that The West cannot extend the privileges of freedom to Muslims within western societies. They must be specifically excluded from such freedoms, for they will ultimately harness those liberties and use them against us.
To this piece, I respond:
Gary Bauer, go straight to hell.
They most certainly should be!
Bingo. Those whiney illegals who complain about how "racist" our country is can always go back to where they came from.
Same for those who immigrate legally and then whine about how their particular "group" is treated.
Moslems in the US are suffering attacks of their own self-induced, self-serving paranoia, which they twist around and call Islamophobia.
And that's still pretty far down the list of abuse. Let me know when then are arrested for practicing an illegal religion, or for criticizing the government. Let me know when they are being executed for criticizing the government. All those things are happening in the world today.
It is highly reminiscent of BJ Billy Clinton's "memory" of Southern churches going up like torches. And George W. Bush certainly bought into that line - it's the reason for his embarrassing public insistence that Islam is a "religion of peace."
But in fact the number of mosques aflame was approximately equivalent to the churches of BJ's faulty memory - that would be none. The number of Muslims murdered, none. The number of mobs, lynchings, and pogroms, none. The number of NY Times stories lamenting how everyone else in the country but themselves is a bigot, innumerable.
