Administration may propose raising fuel efficiency standard to 62 mpg by 2025 (Obamanomics)

The Obama administration is proposing to raise federal fuel efficiency standards for cars and light trucks to at least 47 miles per gallon and to as much as 62 mpg by 2025.

The proposal, which is still in its early stages, could end up being a consolation prize for environmental activists who are still smarting over the collapse of a comprehensive climate bill in Congress.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are filing a notice Friday indicating they will issue a joint proposed rule next year that will require an increase in fuel efficiency anywhere in that range starting with 2017 vehicle models.

Here's a better idea: Feds, get the **** out of the car and gas business, PERIOD. YOU HAVE ZERO AUTHORITY for this.

The politicos will, of course, exempt their up-armored SUV’s from this requirement.

They’re about to find out that they can’t legislate or mandate technological breakthroughs no matter how hard they try.

Why not raise it to 87 and do it "before Christmas"?

Gee, why don’t they just make it 100 mpg? Think of all the oil we’ll save. Why don’t they do something about gravity too?

I’m a fan of shoving their mandates right back up their asses, sideways and without vaseline.

I just love the management by decree style. No basis in reality but because that is what I want, that is what shall be. Then the underlings\proles\serfs get fired when it can't be delivered.

Everyday brings more evidence of how the EMOrats are unfit to govern. It is just mind boggling.

Why not make it 150 miles per gallon? It’s just as realistic.

Why not just be honest and make the combustion engine illegal - that’s what all the fruit loop Dimocratz want anyway! Short of that, make the mpg rqmt. 500 mpg - show some guts and a tiny bit of honesty for the first time in a long time.

We so need a non-academic realist in office. Yes, for all his faults, Bush was such.

Hybrid technology exists, diesel technology exists, but getting trucks to these levels is impossible.

The question is, at what point will all these new mpg restrictions result in newer cars being lighter and less safe than older ones from around 1987-2002 or so.

I propose 172.568 MPG by 2016.
Any motor vehicle, including riding lawnmowers and mopeds, NOT meeting this very attainable target must pay additional green taxes based on the number of tires and/or treads in contact with any portion of the earth.
Collection and use of said taxes to be administered by a new UN committee consisting of all living Nobel Peace prize winners.
Clearly a reasonable solution.

If 62 MPG is good, why not mandate 620 MPG?

Wouldn’t that be ten times better?

...course the other possibility is that existing safety restrictions won’t be waved and their goal of eliminating the production of the light truck/suv will be achieved.

Here's what they should do.

Make the CAFE Standard 1000 MPG. We'll never run out of oil.

Make the Minimum Wage $1000 Per Hour. Everyone will be rich.

Make 5000 Square Foot Houses cost $50,000. Everybody will have a wonderful home that they can afford.

Make Farmers, Doctors and Nurses work for free. Free food and Healthcare for everyone.

Pay Illegal Alien Latina House Cleaners $23 per hour.
Oops, wrong thread...
