In 2006 the American public was polling as high as 80% against amnesty. With all that has happened since then I don't think America has softened on amnesty and the border.

That may be true among the general public, but we still haven’t found a Republican POTUS candidate that is NOT in favor of some kind of path-to-citizenship amnesty.
