Bakery Brings in the Dough after Gay Threat (Heh! Bring on the Cookies! Gay Boycott Backfires)
Family Research Council ^ | October 2, 2010 | Jim Perkins

Posted on 10/02/2010 3:46:54 PM PDT by Mrs. Don-o

I've heard a lot of discrimination cases, but this one takes the cake! Last week in Indianapolis, a couple came under fire for turning away a special bakery order for "National Coming Out Day" at Indiana University (IU). The Just Cookies owners, David and Lily Stockton, politely explained to the caller that they didn't feel comfortable making rainbow-colored treats for a group that endorses homosexuality. As a father, David said he wanted to set the right example for his two daughters and stand by his moral beliefs.

Of course, as his wife explained, anyone is welcome to come to the store and buy cookies from their shelves. "I don't ask people about their sexual orientation," she told the Indianapolis Star after the caller, Heather Brown, started a campaign to get Just Cookies evicted from the City Market.

Brown, who, perhaps not so ironically, works as the "social justice coordinator" at IU, complained that it was "intolerant" to turn down her request. With the help of some ultra-liberal groups, she triggered an investigation by Mayor Greg Ballard's Office of Equal Opportunity. "This could be grounds for taking away their stand in the market," said the president of the City Market Board. "...[W]e can't tolerate discrimination like that," he insisted.

Since when did it become discrimination to have personal convictions? As business owners, it's completely within the Stocktons' right not to be forced by a customer to make a product that violates their moral and/or religious convictions. If the customers don't like it, they can take their dollars elsewhere. Just because David and Lily own a store doesn't mean they're slaves to the agenda of anyone who visits. The Stocktons are well within their legal bounds to decline an order that would make them a public part of a very perverse celebration.

One of the few locals who spoke out against the family said that taking this kind of stand is not "smart business." On the contrary, business has never been better! According to our friends at the Indiana Family Institute, local support has been so overwhelming that the Stocktons sold out of cookies! At least two conservative legal groups have already offered to defend the freedom of Just Cookies in court. That should teach liberals to pursue these half-baked ideas about "tolerance."

Now it's up to the Mayor to quit wilting under pressure and call off the investigation. Contact Mayor Greg Ballard's office (317-327-3601) and ask him to stop bullying businesses with conviction. If he can't stand the heat, tell him to get out of the Stocktons' kitchen!

Hey Indianapolis! Let's buy those chookies --- and (munch munch) make a call to the Mayor.

I'm glad to hear that two Christian legal groups offered their services.

Homo-nazi organizations can be vicious and won't stop until their opponent is completely destroyed. Good people need the defense of some good attorneys.

Would the bakery be required to make ‘erotic treats’ as well in order to avoid being discriminatory?

Of course not.

So there is a standard that says the bakery can refuse certain orders, but these losers want to make that choice for them instead of the business owners making the choice themselves.

And i bet he would have sold them cookies on the shelf, ut that doesn’t require a discussion about why you need them. But, is it discrimination not to make gay rainbow cookies? Really? The man must be forced to make a special model for them?

And Nazi is exactly what they are. When good people understand and stand up to this kind of BS, they almost always prevail. The reason is that these uber-leftists are a tiny minority but they depend on the media and their thuggish tactics to impose their will on the rest of us.

Sometimes I think God allowed us to elect 0bama and the fascists to wake us out of our sleep. Kind of like having a bucket of ice water dumped on you at 3 AM. You feel lousy but you're certainly awake and not about to let it happen again.

Which was it? The original stories on this has them going into a place called 'Just Cookies' and wanting a large order of rainbow decorated cupcakes. Now, cupcakes are never mentioned. Only cookies.

Where did the cupcakes go?

"a couple came under fire"

This was NOT a "couple"; this was two sex deviates/misfits who tried to make yet another issue out of their mal-adjustment to natural and societal normalcy, and were told to take a hike.

If a bakery doesn't want to make items shaped liked private body parts, or promoting the un-natural use of body parts, it's THEIR free-speech right to do so, and the government dictating that it's "discriminatory" is bullshit.

As I recall from when the story broke, they wanted rainbow CUPCAKES from a place called “Just Cookies.” They don’t make cupcakes, period. The lesbians just wanted a cause of action. It’s stories like this that make all the ‘bully’ stories about homosexuals seems silly. No one is more a bully than the leaders of the ‘gay movement.’

That's what the various factions of the Left simply cannot - and will not - accept: our God-given right of self-determination - our right to say NO - trumps any diluted logic they use to legislate the individual into submission and compliance. If these two didn't want to bake fairy cakes, it is their unalienable right not to, and no lawyar, no judge, no hissing, militant queer bullies will ever change that.

"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away, for his name is Obama."

I was wondering the same thing. I had confused cupcakes with muffins but how stupid were they asking for them at “Just Cookies”? LOL!

Apparently after they were turned down for cupcakes they asked for cookies.
