Democrats facing fight to hold on to two North Texas congressional seats
Star-Telegram ^ | 2nd October, 2010 | Anna M. Tinsley

North Texas rarely is viewed as a national battleground in the fight for control of Congress, but two of the hottest races in the country are in the region.

That's because two Democratic incumbents long considered relatively safe -- U.S. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson of Dallas and U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards of Waco -- are now considered vulnerable as Republicans seek to wrest control of Congress from the Democrats.

Johnson is facing Dallas Pastor Stephen Broden, and Bryan oil and gas executive retiree Bill Flores is challenging Edwards.

Broden recently made national news by picking up an endorsement from former GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin; Flores has been in the national news, with strong support from the National Republican Congressional Committee, in his quest to defeat the often-challenged Edwards, who represents a mostly GOP district that includes Johnson and Hood counties.

Some political analysts say all the national attention these races are drawing could be a boon to the challengers.

"This does not bode well for the incumbents," said Allan Saxe, an assistant government professor at the University of Texas at Arlington, who described the Republican momentum as a potential "tidal wave."

Waco isn’t north Texas.

Her name is actually pronounced like “Edie”. Anyway, it will be interesting if she is defeated by a Republican, considering that her district is rated D+27 on Cook PVI scale and is 80% black & Latino combined. If she and Barney Frank both go down, you know it will be a blowout win for the Republicans on November 2.

Eddie Bernice is a radical middle aged Maxine Waters-style black lady with a huge racial chip on her shoulder and a ghetto welfare queen mindset to match. Representing a constituency where Shaquanderosa is considered a “normal” name, the gender mixing of her own title is actually rather tame.

Is Eddie Bernice the one who was recently noted in a scandal regarding NAACP scholarships, or something similar?

Side note: my family loves college football and we make note of the more ridiculous names and joke with our kids about naming future grandchilden... some of these names are just hilarious and sound like names of erectile dysfunction drugs.

And it's also in keeping with the well-established liberal practice of giving their kids a name from each gender, presumably so they can "choose" for themselves later in life.

I figure it’s only a matter of time before we see a “Levitra X. Shabazz” running for office somewhere.

You’d think Waco of all places would have a conservative representing them instead of a liberal dem.

North Texas, the sage speaks!!! Watch the early north Texas voting demographics for clues. Methinks both Johnson and Edwards are going down. But, shucks, brothers and sisters, we should totally destroy the entire Democrat Party, traitors and criminals that they are!!!

I’d love to see Bernice defeated. Another hypocrite who’s made millions from favored contracts at local airports.

Lately she was caught giving Black Caucus scholarship $$ to relatives.

Just another politician taking advantage of the very people who elected her.
