When L.A. Times print readers received their paper last Wednesday, here is what they saw:

It turned out to be just an ad for the new Los Angeles-based Law and Order show on NBC.
To her credit, the Readers’ Representative writes about it, and notes reader reactions, which appear to be mostly appalled. I guess they’re used to seeing front-page advertisements for political candidates on their front pages, but not for TV networks.
Fake editors contacted by patterico.com for fake quotes said: “I never made enough money to be bought,” and “Advertising buys good will.”
Just love it, “City demands Law and Order…”
Well well, how about starting with complying with the laws which are on the books…yet I guess they would loose all too many gardeners plus underclass criminals and would not be able collect enough taxes to afford their life styles.
uh.. it clearly reads, in RED ink “ADVERTISEMENT”.
Certainly does the trick for me. I actually threw up the last time I watched Law and Order - I choked on the P.C. they were forcing down my throat.

Serious newspapers never, ever run ads on the front page. Certainly not "above the fold." This is a new low, even for them.
that may be true, but it does clearly read “ADVERTISEMENT” in an attention getting manner. anybody who reads what is clearly marked “ADVERTISEMENT” and thinks otherwise, should probably take theri fingers out of their noses every once in a while, to improve oxygen flow to the brain.

Pretty pathetic. But newspapers lost their credibility with me a long, long time ago.
It began with repeating Democratic talking points as “hard news”, with disguising opinion as news, with favoring “liberal” opinions disguised on the comics page.
It was exacerbated by the articles referring to men who like to dress as women as “she” and “her” and women who like to dress like men as “he” or “him”, to illegal immigrants as undocumented workers, to unborn babies as fetuses.
It continued when it asserted the debate was over on such diverse issues as global warming, global cooling, the causes of poverty, the existence of unconscious racial discrimination. It further eroded when newspapers.
What was left of their credibility went down the tube when it constantly refers to natural results of economic tampering as “unexpected”, when bad news is always considered “unforeseen” and good news is always the result of wise liberal policies.
Disguising advertising as news is old hat, although this is the first I’ve seen on the front page. It reminded me of a silly advertisement surrounded by what appeared to be two news articles, both of which made the same logical mistake of considering a trend affecting one in four people as “rising” when it now affected one in five people. I have a B.A. in Communications, emphasis in Journalism, and I am embarrassed for my profession.
Disgusting. But that’s ok because they’re liberal and loving. That makes all the difference and why it’s ok for them to do this.

Doesn’t matter, to me, whether or not the ad is marked as such.
The problem is that there is an ad on the front page, above the fold of a newspaper that purports to be a respectable news source. It’s just not done.
Some editor who did the same at grubby, little USAToday is now working elsewhere. Hey, maybe he got hired at the LATimes?

I wish I could get my parents to stop subscribing, but they love the sports page. SIGH.

They’ve done this same thing before when the King Kong exhibit needed pushing at Universal Studios and a couple other things. This is the first time for terrorism. Since I subscribe to the LA Times when you first see it it looks real but quickly because of the word Advertisement in bright red letters below the masthead and other details is obvious to be a fake. If it was the first time you’d seen it you might have gotten roped in for a while.
It was a separate advertising supplement that looked like the front section of the paper. It was 4 pages (one sheet printed on all sides with fake stores, pictures and ads for the TV show. The fonts, and layout was standard LA Times.
The paper had a real front page and section A. This was totally separate from the ad section in question. My wife got the paper in the morning from the front lawn so I don’t know if the advertising supplement was on the outside or not so that’s what you saw first. My guess was that it was.
