EVERYONE’S QUICK to blame the alien,’’ said Aeschylus a couple of millennia ago, and you might lose your citizenship rights in Ancient Greece if you called an Athenean official a Scythian.

Nativism and xenophobia had their uses in early societies when it was necessary for survival to keep the cohesion of clan, tribe, or city state. The to-be-feared “other’’ lived just over the next hill, and would be tempted to come in the night to plunder and rape unless the group stuck together.

But a couple of millennia on, if there is anything to the concept of American exceptionalism, it is that, more than any country, “America is bound to become the first new global society made up of all world religions and civilizations,’’ as Professor Jose Casanova put it. Out of many, one.

That is why Americans should be alarmed at the rising anti-Islamic tide that threatens so much of what this country stands for. The shameful concept that a building legally bought and paid for in Manhattan can’t be used as an Islamic center because it stands some blocks from the site of a terrorist act; the silly claims by some members of the Texas Board of Education that textbooks are biased toward Islam; the outrageous antics of a cleric who threatened to burn the Koran; and the flap over whether some Wellesley school children on a field trip to a mosque kneeled during prayer, are all examples of a truly upsetting trend.

People are getting really "mixed up". Islam is not a country, immigrants come from countries. We do not have religious immigrants, we have immigrants that are religious. There is a HUGE difference. So go back to the ORIGINAL definition. Do we want people here from Yeman, Saudi, etc? That's the question. But we need to stop allowing this "religion" to take on a "country" status. It is an ideology.

Why would anyone have a reason to fear or distrust an illegal alien?

King also reports eight American children are victims of sexual abuse by illegal aliens every day – a total of 2,920 annually.

Based on a one-year in-depth study, Deborah Schurman-Kauflin of the Violent Crimes Institute of Atlanta estimates there are about 240,000 illegal immigrant sex offenders in the United States who have had an average of four victims each. She analyzed 1,500 cases from January 1999 through April 2006 that included serial rapes, serial murders, sexual homicides and child molestation committed by illegal immigrants”

The author trots out the foolish "the other" cliche that is currently the rage among clueless leftists to tar Republicans, Tea Party enthusiasts, and other assorted rabble with the 'xenophobic' label.

Interestingly, that meme more accurately describes the reaction of assorted unhinged leftists, Commies, and Democrats (but I repeat myself) to mainstream Americans. Just mention the name "Sarah Palin" to "progressive" types and watch them act like quivering, drooling and incoherent boobs.
