Black judge rejects plea deal for 'white boy'

A black judge from western Pennsylvania rejected a plea agreement for a man accused of fighting with police during a traffic stop, saying it was "a ridiculous plea that only goes to white boys."

The plea agreement was for a sentence of three months probation. Allegheny County Judge Joseph Williams said on Tuesday that a black defendant in that situation would not have been treated as leniently.

In court, Williams told Assistant District Attorney Brian Catanzarite that he "for some reason comes up with I think ridiculous pleas whenever it's a young white guy," according to The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "I'm just telling you what my observation is. If this had been a black kid who did the same thing, we wouldn't be talking about three months' probation."

Catanzarite responded that he was standing in for another prosecutor and didn't broker the plea deal.

"Now that the court has essentially called me a racist, I think that's unfair. I don't make offers based on race. I make offers based on facts," Catanzarite said, according to the Tribune-Review.

Williams later recused himself from the case, and a white judge accepted the plea agreement for 24-year-old Jeffery McGowan.

At least he did the right thing.

That should be an interesting appeal.

Allegheny County Judge Joseph Williams is an idiot. He needs to be removed from the bench.

Sorry, I thought I’d seen this story posted before. My search showed a this story, originating at MSNBC, posted at 7:59 pm. Apparantly the search page doesn’t correct for time zone (I’m on the east coast). Thinking that the earlier story had been posted at 7:59 my time, I posted the “Earlier” notice, which routes to... this story. My fault. You did OK.

Guess it doesn’t need to be appealed, but the door is open for any “white boy” that has gotten a harsh sentence from the judge.

I make offers based on facts," Catanzarite said

Our "post racial" President has certainly inspired a culture of "Get Whitey"

I'm not commenting on the particular merits of this plea. I'm saying that for this judge to feel comfortable in making public statements like this, clearly expecting to get away with it, is an example of the hate being deliberately fostered by Obama and his minions. And there is a LOT of it out there.

Hardly a week goes by without Obama making a snide racial comment, usually right on the edge of outright racial slander.

The judge got off easy IMO. Recusing himself was his only way out. He’s now tainted and prejudicial towards “white boys” and should be unseated.

Can we punish the JUDGE for his “hate crime”?

I hope even more judges and others in positions of power come out in the open deliberately or slip up about their racism towards whites-let that avalanche get bigger and faster, all the better for the reaction to set in. Once enough people realise that the goal is NOT fairness and equality, but domination and revenge on whites who never owned slaves , by people who never were slaves, we can all start being open about where the real racism emanates from. One day, and I hope it’s soon, there will be a “bridge too far”.

"Our "post racial" President has certainly inspired a culture of "Get Whitey" "

But his Attorney General, Eric Holder, has decreed that "Civil Rights laws don't apply to WHITE people.".

That sounds like grounds to repeal all civil rights laws, as justice is supposed to be blind, and equal.

The judge’s style sucked, but to be fair, he does have a valid point.

Here is a comment at Abovethelaw.com by a guy who worked for a federal prosecutor as a law student:

“Speaking as someone who worked for a federal prosecutor back in law school, I can tell you that I could tell a person’s race by looking at their rapsheet. How? If someone had a number of serious initial accusations, (sometimes even dozens) that were all plead down to misdemeanors or just flat-out dismissed, he was white. If someone had a number of unserious accusations, none of which were ever dropped our pled down, he was black.

The sentencing guidelines were implemented in part to end race-based disparities in sentencing, and have done some good work on that (well, except for the crack/powder cocaine sentencing disparities). People are doing this stuff unconsciously, and DA’s, PD’s and judges should really be focused on identifying and counteracting their own unconscious biases. Because most of us do have them. And they aren’t all about race, but those tend to be the most profound.”
