A federal grand jury in Raleigh has issued a number of new subpoenas in its investigation of two-time Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, his attorney said Wednesday...
The grand jury has been investigating for more than a year whether any money from the Edwards campaign was used illegally to hide his affair with Rielle Hunter.
Hunter, a campaign staffer hired to produce promotional videos, gave birth to Edwards' daughter in February 2008.
Andrew Young, a former Edwards aide, claimed to be the father of the child during the 2008 campaign. Edwards admitted to the affair after dropping out of the campaign, but he didn't acknowledge that he was the girl's father until last January....
Young, who has written a tell-all book about the Edwards campaign and the affair, later told WRAL News that more than $1 million was spent to conceal the affair.
Rachel "Bunny" Mellon, heiress to the fortunes of 19th century industrialist Andrew Mellon and the founder of the Warner-Lambert pharmaceutical company, gave Edwards at least $700,000 to cover expenses for Hunter, according to Young. He said Texas lawyer Fred Baron, who was Edwards' campaign finance chairman, funded other expenses.
The money was given on the side, not as campaign donations, Young said, adding that Baron knew what it was for but that Mellon did not.
Smith initially said no campaign funds were used to conceal the affair, but he later backed off that statement.

I’ll bring the popcorn!

Heartbreaking that the creators of wealth in this country give their money to children bent on it’s destruction.
Isn’t/wasn’t “Bunny” elderly? Although obviously a Dim backer, did she have any idea where this money was being funneled to?
Why is it taking the grand jury so long? We were told months ago that a decision was imminent.
This is so sweet. An ambulance chasing scumbag is on the verge of getting his comupance.Beautiful, just beautiful.
um....there is complete nut a heartbeat away from the Presidency right now to say nothing of TOTUS.

Now, this could become interesting!!
Why would anyone give $700k to a has-been, no account, Democrat, no-body, down on his luck, soon to be divorced lawyer, that has no future. Especially since he has millions of his own??
How could the sweet talking Edwards have sucked so much cash out of this heiress?? For such nefarious ends??
This guy must be a real sweet talker, or maybe we have all under-estimated the size of his “package”!
Two-timing, more like.
“did she have any idea where this money was being funneled to?”
The article says Baron did know, but Bunny did not.
All of the them knew what was going on.
Even the two-timer’s wife. But they are Democrats,
so a stiff upper lip was required ... to avoid laughing.
WHY would someone give A TON OF MONEY to a MULTI MILLIONAIRE and NOT know what it's going to be used for??? I don't believe that story.
“All of the them knew what was going on.”
Maybe. Maybe not.
“Bunny Mellons friends say Young didnt reveal that the so-called need apparently was Edwards sex partner, New Age videographer Rielle Hunter, the mother of his love childand they claim Mrs. Mellon was shocked, shocked, when she finally learned the truth.”

I find it pretty amusing that Bunny’s principal motivation for supporting John Edwards was to keep Hillary Clinton from trashing the First Lady’s garden. She apparently thought she was putting her money on JFK II.
Didn’t Edwards and his inner circle refer to Mellon’s cash contributions as “Bunny-money”?
