Harding U. Drops Komen over Planned Parenthood Funding

By Kathleen Gilbert

SEARCY, Arkansas, October 6, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The campus bookstore at an Arkansas Christian university has stopped selling Susan G. Komen for the Cure items because of the organization's funding of several affiliates that fund Planned Parenthood.

The Daily Citizen of Searcy and White County reported that, according to Harding spokesman David Crouch, university vice president Mel Sansom decided to pull the items because of the Planned Parenthood connection.

Komen has come under fire from pro-life advocates for maintaining ties with about 21 affiliates that support Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider and a top contraceptive advocate. A report by Stop Planned Parenthood (STOPP) in 2008 found that Komen affiliates donated $700 million to Planned Parenthood between April 2005-April 2006.

While Komen spokesman John Hammarley said the Planned Parenthood funding was meant to support breast health, researchers have pointed to a scientifically-supported link between abortion and contraception and breast cancer that renders the funding for the abortion and contraceptive giant questionable at best.

An April 2009 study by scientists at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center found that taking oral contraceptives while under age 18 more than tripled the risk of aggressive breast cancer, and more than quadrupled the risk in those who have used the drug recently. In addition, it found that having an abortion raises the risk of breast cancer by 40 percent.

A study published by the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons in 2007 called abortion the "best predictor of breast cancer."

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month...

Maybe it is time the truth starts to be spread about Breast Cancer rather than Komen/Planned Parenthood lies.

That 700 million number is almost certainly wrong.

Before THE PILL, Breast Cancer was a grandmother's disease.

Now it strikes very young women in their 20's. I personally know a woman who had to have radical surgery because of Breast Cancer (in her mid-20's).

To my knowledge, she had no family history of Breast Cancer.

Even so, Genetic disposition to Breast Cancer does not normally occur when one is only 20 years old. It is more like 40 or 50 years old.

They are Komen affliates, not the organization itself.

That means that if I am authorized affliate of Komen (such as the NFL), then I might donate $100 million to Planned Parenthood.

And I believe the NFL does give BIG BUCKS to Planned Parenthood.

I read this information years ago, and yet I've not seen anything even remotely related in the press about this. So planned parenthood is actually trying to eliminate women? Horrible enough that they hide the emotional trauma suffered post abortion, they hide the fact that you will probably get breast cancer as a result. Oh, yeah, "we're just trying to give women options". Despicable.

It is difficult to understand an organization that is totally(supposedly) for defeating breast cancer, and yet gives part of its money to an organization whose main objective is killing babies and one of the after effects or results of this procedure is that a large percentage of women who have abortions get breast cancer.

Self-preservation?

Offensive, very offensive regardless of their logic in defending this practice.

NASCAR is running a promo where if you donate you get your name on a car. Kill a baby, and maybe a woman, get your name on a car. Wow, bad pr to say the least.

The NFL and MLB need to drop Komen too, and stop these stupid pink parades each year.

And that pink should be red for blood. Have you heard of the documentary "Blood Money" yet?

Blood Money trailer

My daughter just saw it through her pro-life club at college and said it was an incredible movie, very powerful, and very, very sad. PP, Komen and so many others are all in this together.

I am a nursing student (RN). I wrote and hand delivered a letter to the Dean of the College of Nursing (and Allied Health).

The "subject" of the letter was:

Nursing Failure: Why Political Correctness is leading to the death of many young women

I do not expect the ball to be dropped on this.

Perhaps I can get someone to publish an article in a Nursing Magazine about this subject...

My daughter is an RN, she works as a Perinatal Nurse on the 6p to 6a shift. From many a perspective a job where you rock babies all night is a dream job. But all is not always quiet on the bassinet front as you probably know. Sometimes very serious situations arise. It was not her first choice, but I think it was God who chose for her because she has a heart that cherishes those precious souls and she can convey that preciousness to mothers who might not view them as such.

Thank you for the letter. Just the statistics on black women who have abortions should shock the socks off of people, but then add to it that those same women are going to get breast cancer....and planned parenthood goes right on pretending to want to help women. Yeah, right. Help line their pockets and enlarge their power base.

No one believes the truth because if it was as bad as that they would have heard about it. Nope, they are suppressing the data.

Keep on, with dignity, making your point. Nurses could make a difference. Nurses can make a difference!
