Jailed Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo has been named the winner of the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize.
The award, announced in Norway's capital Oslo, is certain to anger Beijing, which had earlier warned against the move.
Norwegian Nobel Committee president Thorbjoern Jagland said Mr Liu was "the foremost symbol of the wide-ranging struggle for human rights in China".
Mr Jagland earlier admitted he knew the choice would be controversial.

Just adding that China blacked out CNN when the announcement was made.
Oooooh.... Beijing is gonna have a HUGE hissy fit!!!
Hehehehe....
Can Chinese missiles reach Oslo?
I’ve always respected Liu Xiaobo. Does this mean that I need to reevaluate him?
Beats the hell out of Jimmy Carter, Al Gore, and Obama. I guess these guys got tired of wiping egg off of their faces.
good choice
Maybe Oslo replaced the judges? If they did maybe we can learn from them.
WHAT!!!!!! Obama didn’t get it again!!!!!
THIS IS A TRAVESTY!!!!!
I’m really surprised that they put a thumb in the eye of the Chicoms after the Nobel has come to be an award for
those who make the biggest advancements in socialism for the year.
I find it interesting that when the Nobel Committee awards the peace prize to a person, the people who usually call the award ridiculous and un-merited are the awardees countrymen.
Liu Xiaobos award is being condemned by the Chinese government. We in the USA just laugh at our 3 latest peace prize awardees Gore, Carter and Obama.
I also remember the Japanese laughing at the award given to their Prime Minister Eisaku Sato ( They called it - OKASHI (strange in English)).
A large number of Ghanans criticized the award given to Kofi Anand calling it totally undeserved for someone as corrupt as this man.
A large number of Guatemalans protested Rigoberta Menchus award warning people that she was a liar and her story, which many thought was true, was FICTITIOUS (later proven right ).
And on and on it goes...
They’re unaccustomed to not getting their way.
Due credit to the committee for getting it right for once.
After last year’s Peace Prize going to Obama, yes, this is a highly decent (and well-deserved) choice.
Even the choice for Nobel Literature laureate is pleasantly surprising. Mario Vargas Llosa is a respected Latin American author in his own right, and his political beliefs happen to be center-right.
