Paladino, Cuomo to Debate at Hofstra University
LongIslandPress.com/Long Island News ^ | October 7, 2010 | Lindsay Christ

Hofstra University will host the first gubernatorial debate between GOP candidate Carl Paladino, Democratic opponent Andrew Cuomo and five third-party candidates on Monday, Oct. 18.

All seven candidates said they plan to attend, including Anti-Prohibition Party candidate Kristin Davis, Freedom Party candidate Charles Barron, Green Party candidate Howie Hawkins, Libertarian Party candidate Warren Redlich and Jimmy McMillan of the Rent is too Damn High Party. The debate comes after Paladino accused Cuomo of avoiding a debate. It also comes two years after the university hosted the third and final Presidential debate in 2008.

“This election is a critical one for New York State, and hosting a debate is an important public service,” said Stuart Rabinowitz, Hofstra University president. “Our students will have the opportunity to again witness history first-hand, and the public will have an opportunity to learn about the candidates’ views and experience.”

The audience will include community members, local leaders, and Hofstra students and faculty.

“We are splitting the audience between all of the organizational partners, and for Hofstra there will be a ticket lottery to students and faculty,” Melissa Connelly, a university spokeswoman, said.

The hour and a half long debate is a cable-exclusive event, and will air live on News12 at 7 p.m. It will also been broadcasted on other local cable stations throughout the state. New 12 and Newsday will also stream the event live on their websites.

A seven way “debate’? Don’t waste your time. Who are the other 5 anyway? What a joke. Hofstra will be embarrassed.

This is NOT good for Paladino at all. A debate with 7 candidates? Complete waste of time. Koomoe will simply hide among all the other bodies and filibuster when he has to.

Ninety minutes for 7 people. But it *is* better than nothing.

So, a debate with seven candidates, including the Rent is Too Damned High Party, at a liberal university, and no doubt moderated by liberals.

Looks like Cuomo was first to give in—but only an inch.

‘at’s ok, as long as Paladino gets to punch out Cuomo, it’s worth it!

I think that if Carl speaks from the heart, and gives his plan in whatever time alloted, he’ll do well.

What was Paladino’s big announcement on TV yesterday? There was a lot of hype before it was aired, but if there was any article discussing what he said, I missed it.

There will be too many distractions. Cuomo just has to stay away from saying anything bad about Paladino. Then keep his mouth shut.

Questionable.

I came home late and looked for it but had no luck. I googled, just now and found, unfortunately, this article.

Not so much...

Please contact me if you’re interested in being added on or taken off the Carl Paladino for Governor ping list. This looks to be a fairly high volume ping list for a while, probably until the election.

The Rent is Too Damn High Party? I predict that the other six candidates will spit the coherent vote, and this guy will squeak in in November. You heard it here first.

You are mostly correct, but what Paladino needs to do is make his time COUNT, and talk about the ISSUES voters care about.

I like your idea, and agree. I'd start it, but I'm a bad multitasker. :-)

Apparently, Paladino's been insisting on the inclusion of the fringers.

His thinking is that it will 6 against Cuomo, but it sounds pointless to me.
