After more than two months of being trapped underground, 33 Chilean miners seem to be hours away from being reached by a rescue drill.
The country's Mining Minister, Laurence Golborne, announced on Friday that a rescue drill is approximately 130 feet away from where the miners are trapped and it should reach them in as little as 24 hours. However, once the drill reaches them, CNN reports that it could take a few more days until all of the miners are free.
Health experts have been working with the miners, increasing their physical activity, in order to determine how well they will withstand the efforts of rescue. Reportedly, many seem physically capable of the rescue, though some have had issues with anxiety.

I would be utterly claustrophobic terrified at the prospect of being squeezed into a small rescue device and pulled up through 1/2 mile of rock.
Prayers!
After hearing about this story.... my bad days at work have been put into a slightly different perspective. However, the one miner whose wife was at church and discovered he also had a mistress... he may want to stay down there.
can you imagine the 10 minute ride up the tube in a cage little bit bigger than your body?
I KNOW i’d have an itch half way up that I couldnt reach...
I wonder how long the “ride” to the surface will take?
Can you imagine getting in the tube and being raised to the surface? Talk about claustrophobia! That would be terrible, and as one who skydives and other such nonsensical things, I’m not afraid of heights or much else. But the thought of that two mile ride up just wigs me out.....
...and getting stuck...............
It is a half mile, but the points the same.
I would be more afraid of getting stuck or the cable breaking..............
I would want to drugged out like for minor surgery.
Hopefully they’ll get rich selliing the rights to their stories...
Try Space Mountain in DisneyLand. Dark, being jerked all over, and up and down. I think the 10 minute ride in the tube, while not a whole lot of fun, will be a piece of cake. Especially since you would know you will be free at the end of it.
Thank God for all the support being given to these men.
Maybe the Bee Gees could write a song about it?
Just close your eyes and remember to not take deep breaths or you’ll get stuck.
—as one who has spent over 13000 hours underground, (none of it trapped there) you’ve got it—they’ll all be willing to take the ride to be out—even the guy with both wife and girlfriend-—
I would think traveling a half mile will take longer than 10 minutes, unless they want to jerk these guys out pretty quick.
Not sure, but I’d guess to be a miner, one would have to be okay with small, enclosed spaces.
“...I wonder how long the ride to the surface will take?...”
There’s an article in a British paper that said the trip would take 90 minutes. Don’t know it that’s a round trip time or what. Allowing 5 minutes to exit the capsule and send it back down, it’ll take roughly 52.25 hours to complete the job. A doctor is being sent down first to make an assessment as to the order of extraction.
I have no idea how those guys haven’t gone absolutely nuts down in that mine.
