The entirety of last nights debate between incumbent Democrat Marcy Kaptur and Republican challenger Rich Iott in OH-9 has been posted, and one of the most interesting part of it was the audience reactions.
Kaptur and Iott could not have been more different on the issues, and it showed. One of the most tense moments of audience reactio n came when Iott said (to massive applause) that the bailouts for GM and Chrysler were absolutely wrong, to which Kaptur replied that GM and Chryslers bailouts were necessary to save workers, a line which earned her derisive laughter.
However, at the end of her statement on the subject, Kaptur personally took on the crowd, snapping that, Those who laughed dont know what its like to be out of work and want to give up on our industries. This line received deafening applause.

Unfortunately, Iott is the guy who it was reveled yesterday likes to dress up as a Nazi. :(
Not sure Iott is going to survive the SS re-enactment news story.

It's going to take one hell of a wave to sweep Lott into office in that district!
And a poorly dressed Nazi at that.
He also likes to dress up as a civil war infantryman (union) A WWI Doughboy and a WWII infantryman.
Can’t have reenactments without both sides unless you intend to rewrite history.
The district was already rated Solid D, so if he loses this it does not really affect the chances of the Republicans taking the House.
So? Are you now pushing Journ0list propaganda? He also dressed up as an American WWI and WWII soldier.
We have a civil war muster every year. A lot of the regular actors have both Union and Confederate uniforms in case one side needs to be filled out.
I used to work with a guy who dressed up for renaissance fairs and Scottish Highland games, Viking reenactments etc. I helped him make chain mail during down time at the shop. He made the local news when he was arrested with a broadsword in his back seat.
I would surely vote for him because crap like cap and trade and the health care bill are more offensive to me than WW2 reenactments, but we still need to know what stories are out there and not bury our heads in the sand.
I agree, but the story is out there just don’t get it from “The Hill”.
Did you know that all of the folks who portray Confederate soldiers in reenactments actually own slaves?
Thanks for the thread.
I just got back a little bit ago, and it looks like there were a couple of earlier threads regarding Rich Iott.
It remains to be seen if the news will damage his chances, since he appeared to have lot of support in Ottawa and Erie counties and is the first viable (R) candidate for the district in many years.
Ya just can't dress up as a Waffen SS soldier and expect to win elections. However unfair it may be, however innocent his reenactments may have been, you still can't dress up like a Nazi (and be photographed in the uniform) and expect to win elections. Oh, yeah, with the exception of playing a part in The Sound of Music.
People need to understand (not you in particular, Arista, but a general statement)... this is called acting. Iott does historial reenactments -- in this particular case, he's portraying a Nazi Waffen SS member during Operation Barbarossa, the German invasion of the USSR.
We have historical reenactments all the time here in Virginia, with players portraying Confederate soldiers. I highly doubt Iott is any more pro-Nazi than our role-playing "Confederates" are pro-slavery.
