Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson isn't on any ballots this November. But in some parts of the country, she might as well be.
Ms. Jackson's agency is becoming a foil for congressional candidates across the country. In South Dakota, Republican Kristi Noem has called for Ms. Jackson's resignation, citing the EPA's inaction on a request from ethanol producers to allow more ethanol in gasoline.
In Arkansas, embattled Democratic Sen. Blanche Lincoln is blasting Ms. Jackson's agency for promulgating "overreaching, burdensome" regulations on pesticides used by farmers.
In these states and others, Ms. Jackson's EPA has become a focal point of the argument about the role of federal regulation in the economy. Environmental and public-health groups that form an important part of the Democratic Party's constituency say a vigorous EPA is vital when Congress is deadlocked on environmental policy issues such as climate change.
But for Republicans and for some Democrats, the EPA is a symbol of a government that does too much and discourages job-creating investments. "It represents government out of control," said Rep. Sanford Bishop, (D., Ga.) when asked to describe his constituents' view of the agency.
Ms. Jackson has emerged as one of the Obama administration's most energetic regulators. During the past 18 months, the agency has proposed 42 "significant" regulations, according to OMB Watch, a left-leaning watchdog group. That compares with 16 in the first 18 months of the EPA during the George W. Bush administration. The government defines regulations as "significant" if they have an annual impact on the economy of $100 million or more or meet certain other criteria, such as raising new legal issues or interfering with other agencies' actions.

This kind of shiite coming from a republican is what is wrong with the stupid party.
Hey Kristi - why don’t you come over and I’ll let you try to start one of my carburated power equipment engines that has been ruined by your welfare farmer’s precious ethanol.
I don’t want more ethanol in my gas. It is right on
the edge of a damaging amount in modern motorcycle
engines. The damn farmers are going to ruin my
bikes to line their pockets.
I was reading through a thread of vstar 650 owners.
That bike has carbs. Ethanol creates a gel in cold
weather that can clog the small passages in the
carb. Adding some Seafoam helps to dry the fuel
and avoid the clogs. The Chevron station near
exit 113 of I-15 near Idaho Falls has a big sign that
says their gas has NO ethanol. It’s my preferred
supplier in that neighborhood.
Walmart sells Seafoam in the auto dept in the additives section.
It’s bad news for small engines too, generators, chainsaws, etc. If you leave ETOH/gas in these for many months, which is not uncommon, it gunks up the carburetors and you have to clean them out, not to mention it won’t start in an emergency. The only placed I can find non-ETOH gas around the Atlanta Metro is at marinas, all gas stations in the area have ETOH/gas since June ‘08. There are large increases of sales for additives to degrade the ETOH in gas.
The regulatory power of the EPA needs to be sharply curtailed (or eliminated).
Ethanol is hygroscopic. The water it draws from the
air leads to rust in gas tanks, ice formation in
winter and gelling behavior. I have to ream the
small orifices of my Yamaha XT250 and TW200
carbs each Spring. Neither bike is over 1000
miles yet. No time to ride due to out of town
business trips, but lots of time for maintenance
caused by crappy gas.
Exactly! And this is why government spending and interference in the market will not decrease no matter which party is in power. We Americans want our place at the trough. We want the other guy to give up his spot.
There is no incentive for politicians to vote for less spending. They will not be elected or re-elected if they don’t “help” their constituents.
