NEWTON, Massachusetts -- Brian Phillips was wearing flip-flop sandals Sunday at the nondescript office near the corner of Elliot and Chestnut streets that is headquarters for one of this fall's most remarkable congressional campaigns.
Phillips is campaign manager for Sean Bielat, the young Marine officer who is challenging Barney Frank in one of the most solidly Democratic districts in the country. During his 29-year career in Congress, Frank has never faced such a formidable opponent and the surge of support for Bielat's campaign has clearly rattled the incumbent. Ever since Scott Brown's triumph in January, the GOP in this state has been fired up (as Jim Antle noted last week in his article "Red Bay State") and there is a sense among 4th District Republicans that the Democrats have been caught flat-footed.

Disgusting headline of the day award.................
That is a bad title for a Barney Frank article
Please PLEASE throw this bastard out, MA.
Someone change that headline ... PLEASE.
How ‘bout “Can Bielat come from behind to win?”
One of the lessons from the Scott Brown win is that (this year at least) the political machine candidate CAN be beaten.
The tea partiers got it, that’s why you saw so many incuments losing in primaries. The party insiders (of both parties) are just now getting it.
It will be interesting to see how many politicians in “safe” political seats get turned out this year.
I think I’m going to record the MSNBC & CNN election night coverage just so I can watch the looks of horror on their faces. “who did you say just lost?”
Freepers. . .can't live with em. .can't live without em. .LOL!!!
I took the day after Election day off from work just to watch all the commentary :)
How about, “Barney Blows His Re-election”
It would be awesome if we could find dump Frank.
I already told my husband that I plan on staying up all night just to watch the coverage. I want to see the California returns, too.
On weekends, if there are 3 in the office phone banking in one office, then there are more in the other offices, plus more than that walking the neighborhoods, putting up signs, attending the campaign’s event, etc. 3 phonebanking is more impressive than the writer thinks and shows a very active campaign. That said, I do wish folks would get involved. 3 should be 12. People talk, talk but need to walk, walk.
So, if you are around a competitive race, get the office location and go and phone bank over the weekend or evening, whenever you can. Seriously. Turnout in midterms is typically 35% . . . so it’s all about getting your people informed that there’s a race and out to vote.
I like:
Barney love that Dick Armey, but won’t see that anymore after November.
It would be great to make this happen. The fact that we are making races like this close show how strong we are in the very winnable districts. We are playing on their half of the field almost entirely. Very few GOP leaning districts are even in play for them at this point. Even when they have incumbency.
You are bad dude.... LOL
He'll end up as a "professor" at Camelot High.
Or a czar.
