Lots of jobs can be frustrating, but how many will actually drive you to suicide?
Data on occupational suicide is hard to find, perhaps because the subject is controversial, but we talked to the premier suicide statistician, Wayne State's Steven Stack.
Combining several papers by Stack, we came up with a list of the most suicidal jobs.
This list is not weighted for demographic factors. If it were, the list might look different. For instance, men are four times more likely to commit suicide than women, according to Stack, and white Americans are twice as likely to commit suicide as blacks.

put commission based retail on the top of the list. While I’ve been tempted to strangle particularly bothersome customers on occasion I’ve often been tempted to over indulge on vallium and vodka.
Bomb disposal?
Our military personnel and law enforcement officers must be quite a tough breed. They don’t make the list inspite of the fact that they face potential danger and even death and accidents everyday.
Did I ever mention that I find it anoying when websites take what should be a short list and spread it over 15 ad-infested pages?
I didn’t see FreeRepublic Admin Moderator listed.
So DENTISTRY is dangerous!
And this is a revelation how?
TennesseeProfessor,
College Proffesors are NOT on the list.
:)
Yeah, I pass on slide shows.
Yeah, I pass on slide shows.
“I was quite surprise to NOT see investment bankers, brokers and financial managers on the list.”
Why would they be? The reasonably smart ones make money off of US no matter what the markets do, year-in, year-out. It’s not like it’s usually their own money they’re gambling with, and if they do something really catastrophic, the government comes in to bail them out.
“Dentists are 5.45 times more likely to commit suicide than average”
Things they don’t tell you in dental school.
Was Vince Foster a lawyer, a Special Counsel to the President?
I knew it...I’m the second-most-likely bracket!
That is, I’m IN the second-most-likely bracket.
What?
The trend seemed pretty clear until they got to dentists...
The unfortunate drowning death of the Sidebar Moderator a couple of years (as reported by FR) was an ACCIDENT. Everybody said so. Couldn't have been foul play or suicide.

Being a Bengals fan is not an occupation, but still is a high risk.
