Border Patrol Sends Extra Boats to Falcon Lake (Texas)
KRGV ^ | !0/11/2010 | Erica Proffer

ZAPATA - A dozen Border Patrol boats, including some from the Valley are now in Zapata. They will be used to patrol and protect Falcon Lake.

The increase comes after the disappearance and presumed murder of David Hartley.

Both the Mexican and American governments are still searching for his body.

People who live along Falcon Lake say the increased security helps. Still, they'd like to see even more.

"I think they can do a lot better and bring more troops so that we can have the homeland security. We need more law enforcement around the border," says Leo Cuellar.

No word on how long the boats will stay in Zapata. A Border Patrol spokesperson declined to comment saying details of their role at Falcon Lake must remain top secret.

What will they be allowed to do once they are there?

Will there be agents on these boats?

Border Patrol? The same people who are ordered not to use deadly force in self-defense, and then are prosecuted when they do? That Border Patrol?

The Border Patrol will do what the Border Patrol does. . .kicking illegal butt.

And luv’n every minute of it.

The Border Patrol is the most PC-incorrect federal agency we have. They are not cowed and they don't care for politics or PC. The live and work in the desert SW and doing the job they do, they don't have time for hurt feelings or PC nonsense.

They are not ordered to not use deadly force. Orders like that wouldn't work in any case.

PC attny’s do the prosecuting. The Border Patrol Agents have no love or time for politico's or attny’s.

Really disgusting how some in the media, and on FR, were attacking this guy’s woman....even though Mexico is a proven Third World craphole run by Drug Cartels

The shoreline of CA is assaulted daily and there aren’t any patrol boats out there on a nightly basis. Very little effort to stop the smugglers. They wait until they hit the beach to go after them.

At least two dozen 24/7 cameras are trained on various parts of the Texas border. None are trained on Lake Falcon!!!!Why not?

I’ll admit to questioning her story - because it was so unbelievable; having no experience or understanding of this lawless area. Now we know - US citizens are at the mercy of murdering drug cartels - with no Federal protection and no State protection allowed.

So much for Homeland Security !!!! Is it RED yet?

You have a very good point. These bloodthirty, piratical thugs should be met with overwhelming force. A few of them, nay, a bunch of them blown to smithereens would quickly put a damper on their terrorism.Obviously the Mexicans can't or won't do anything of the kind. That's why criminals rule Mexico.

It is going to be interesting to see how the Mexican government takes the beheading of their police investigative head that was trying to bring the two fellows determined to be persons-of-interest to ground.

It is amazing that they can show their faces in the press when the cartels kill the police and belittle their capacity to retaliate with something such as a head delivered in a bag.

Sodpoodle, not sure what part of the country you call home, but even as far north as Oklahoma, we have violence from the drug cartels. I'm sure it goes throughout the country. Not long ago, our local news carried stories about how our local law enforcement and their families were receiving death threats from the drug thugs. The open borders bunch has unleashed the very hounds of hell on this country.

I live in one of the more comfortable neighborhoods in Phoenix - close to the I-10 ‘drug route north’. Even our quiet neighborhood is not immune from the cartel’s influence - the traffickers pass through regularly although a few arrests have been made and reported on the Phoenix news shows.

I also work in one of the ‘barrios’ in central Phoenix, needless to say, it is not a safe place. Theft is rampant and security cameras and barbed wire fences are not a deterrent.

My concealed carry permit, even though not required in AZ, is my security blanket, and my Ruger P90, of course.

The answer to the Mexican problem is so simple.....make Mexico the 51st state. Great revenue from tourism, agriculture, oil, lots of resources. It would be a viable and balanced answer.

Come on, UCFR...there were reasons to have some skepticism of the wife’s story. I did for a while, and I live in the Falcon Lake area.

It was, or perhaps I need to say “in a reasonable and sane world, should have been” telling that 3 or 4 congresscritters and Rick Perry seemed to believe the woman. But with the poor judgement that so many elected officials show, one can’t simply take their appearance on TV as credible support for the story.

Now, we seem to have more reasons to believe at least that she probably didn’t kill him.

All the stuff broadcast, no body, no ski, no lifejacket, the wife’s demeanor, differences in her story etc.

Note I said SOME skepticism. Referring to a reasonable prudent amount.

All the stuff broadcast, no body, no ski, no lifejacket...

If I were a cartel member, I'd dump the body after retrieving what I wanted; the jacket and ski. Heck, they're so good at heads, why not arms, legs, whatever...

...the wife’s demeanor, differences in her story etc.

I have no idea how I'd react if something similar happened to my wife. Grief, puzzlement and confusion, and yes some anger as well, can be a potent combination, leading others to read more into my appearance and statements than is there. Just sayin'...

I just miss the old "innocent until proven guilty" meme. So, just because stuff is broadcast for the shock factor, I usually try to sit back and wait...
