The cable may be causing the pod to spin in the direction of the lay of the cable winding Interesting surmise; but haven't they been lowering stuff already? Would not such a spin have been seen before?

Yes there is going to be some spin. It has been reported that they were worried about the spin causing a problem in the men coming up.
