People often include short letters with Christmas cards updating friends and family on the year’s events.

I once had a family member, elementary school teacher, send us one. It was riddled with run-on sentences and spelling errors.

At first I thought it was a joke...

It wasn’t.

Many of us regret the hours we spent on people & causes that ultimately betrayed us. But this is an exciting time. Maybe your friend has got a little more fight left in him.

There are many good Americans that believe in this country, its constitution and equality under the law for all of its citizens. This man, is one of those Americans. He is a democrat--so what? His party has left him many years ago.

If I had the power, (which I don't) I would welcome such an American to Free Republic. It is a conservative forum, no doubt, first and foremost. It is not a republican forum. Although many of us are forced to cast our lot with republicans, and many conservatives are forced to put on the republican blazer to get anything done.

I for one, would welcome a different opinion--a conservative opinion, hopefully, from the other party. We are after all Americans, fighting for the life blood of our country from forces that seem to great. We American's--that value our constitution and rule of law, need to band together, from which ever party--toward the ultimated goal of returning our nation back to its constitutional roots.

How disturbing it is for this email writer to realize that all the energy and sweat and years he has put in to TRY and educate youth in the beauty of our system--was and is for naught.

I for one, hope this gentleman comes to Freerepublic. It is a rough and tumble forum that at time has the most expected knee-jerk respones..But for most times, there are gems of knowledge and research and opinion that makes the knee jerk postings just a minor inconvenience.

My thoughts--there was a time when people believed that the two parties actually stood for something, a flag to rally around depending on one's viewpoint. In that time, while the two parties may have had different ideas, America and its founding ideals were foremost.

Washington said it best in his farewell speech when he warned about falling prey to ideas of 'faction'. At least since the 1960's, these United States have seen a de-evolution of belief and support for the American idea, and have substituted 'party' for country. And here's the rub: at the top of both parties, there is tacit understanding of playing 'good cop, bad cop', dividing the American public and distracting its attention while people of low character loot the treasury and sap the spirit of the electorate.

I would encourage your friend to keep the head up. He's done the honorable thing. And even if 7 or 8 out of 10 fall prey to the machinations of the incubi roaming the streets of Washington, 2 or 3 out of 10 keep that spark alive to pass on to others. I would even posit that the number is higher, they just need the right motivation (re: the rise of the Tea Party movement, where people who were once content to go to their jobs, tend their homes, and raise their children have become awake, and realize that a very real danger faces the Republic--not from without, but from within).

First and foremost, your friend believes in the American idea, party affiliation notwithstanding. Now is not the time to become discouraged (which is what the scum around the halls of power would like), but to draw deep and fight for that idea.

There is no reason the Tea Party needs to be exclusive to the Republicans. The idea of constitutional limited government used to be in both parties. Democrats need people like your friend to clean up after the the November mess, and start taking back their party from the extremists. I would love to have the whole center move right by 2012 and be working towards lowering federal spending.

It seems your friend has a bit of racial animosity. I can understand becoming frustrated as a teacher, but I have known too many wonderful and competent people of all races to accept broad-brush racial characterizations. I would not be entirely comfortable reading rants like the one you posted here.

That said, my comfort is not your problem, and all are welcome here at FR, as long as they abide by the Posting Guidelines (and don’t piss off the Mods).

I would welcome your friend to FreeRepublic. I would appreciate more true horror stories concerning “public edumacachion”. I want ammunition...I want more dirt to come out fast and furious....so that WE can start the disinfection of the public school system ASAP.
I feel sorry for the teacher who seemingly suffered a nervous breakdown the other day, but am surprised we don’t see more of them. Teachers are DENIED control over their own classes.
My sister is a teacher...she’s conservative. Her description of how they are told to “teach” makes me feel sorry for her AND the poor guinea pigs the socialists are making out of our children. This crap has to stop soon.
I welcome him; his “dues” are to educate us further in the indoctrination of our youth; and to make a solemn oath to fight the teacher’s unions.

Be careful about encouraging him to FReep if he is a new conservative. Some folks on our boards are very sneery and insulting if you don’t agree with their particular take on a particular subject. You can get called a N00b, a troll, an idiot, and have all manner of sarcastic stuff slapped at you even if you are pretty conservative and inoffensive.

So only if he’s thick-skinned. Otherwise he may want to lurk a while. I’d hate to see him discouraged.

I believe the race-relations cause, the gender cause, just like so many other worthy causes like the human-rights cause, etc, has been hijacked by the socialist/marxists for their own nefarious agenda.

The only hope for race relations in this country and future prosperity and progress of African Americans is through the rise and empowerment of conservative constitutionalist pro-American black Americans. I watched Condolessa Rice tonight and my heart fluttered at what could, should have been. She is strong, wise, smart, talented, and grateful African American woman! What a breath of fresh air. Tell your friend not to be discouraged for she and others like her are the hope for the future for all of us in this country.

I spent 39 years in the classroom teaching in predominately "inner city schools" trying to reach kids who did not and never will become a part of the "American Dream".

Thirty-nine years is close to the beginning of the destruction of the American Educational System. This poor fellow had the bad fortune of participating in the long slide into a hole so deep it may take two generations to dig out of, with herculean effort.

And the teachers had no role in the disaster, other than insisting (through their unionized leverage) that ever increasing amounts of money thrown at the problem would make it go away, while there was a chance that they would profit from the terrible experience if only they persevered. Remember, these, most of them, are the bottom of the educational barrel.

I remember working for a very talented (and very liberal) architect around 1970, who decided to move to San Francisco to give his children the benefit of the multicultural liberal experience. Within a year I lost track of him, after all of his kids had been beaten to within an inch of their lives, since they were the wrong race for the neighborhood he chose. The very same "...kids who did not and never will become a part of the "American Dream".

The unnecessarily brutal experience he chose for his family led me to question his intelligence, judgement and sanity.

Evidently things generally in large metropolitan areas today is, hard to believe, worse.

The cause is not hard to identify. Generations of tolerance of criminal behavior, coupled with a firmly entrenched "right" to the benefits of a free society with no required effort of any kind. As impossible as a one-face coin : rights with no responsibilities whatsoever.
In a rational, truly enlightened society these vermin should live in caves, starve, or be killed during their criminal solutions to all of life's problems; and good riddance to them.

Your friend sounds like a welcome addition to FR. Good history teachers are a treasure. Hope to read his thoughts soon.
