That second one you posted is pretty wild.

Good thing they were exempted from all those eco-treaties huh?

Some of the others are worse.

They should overthrow the commies. Is becoming a first world military power really worth destroying their own people?

I guess when you have 1.3 billion people, their lives are cheap

Thank you for the link to this article. It is a very powerful reminder of the horrors of pollution.

And will China have to abide by cap-and-tax treaties? Of course not. The “progressives” always use the excuse that the US is rich and China needs to be exempt in order to catch up.

It’s impossible to avoid buying made in (communist) China junk. I avoid it when I can. If this means buying something made in Mexico or central America then so be it. The quality is better and the money doesn’t go towards a country that is a threat to the US.

I have a liberal brother that lives there part time due to business. He excuses their pollution problem as “They are a growing country who's turn it is and we need to overlook that while they try to catch up to us. We have had it good for a long time.".....Holidays can be a b@tch at my house.

The turn of the twentith century in the US and England it was not any better.

We are looking at their growth through our 21rst century eyes.

Been there, seen it. Went there to visit the in-laws....

To call China a “third world nation” is a compliment. Lots of nice shiny new buildings, surrounded by trash. People sweeping the streets with tree branches outside of those shiny new buildings. Constuction workers loading dump trucks with shovels, by hand. Running sewers under metal plates on the sidwalks, with people eating at outdoor “restaurants” on top of the plates (that overflow).

And the smog.....

I think this misses important differences. If you go back in time, you find a country (UK or America) with maybe 50 million people. And lots of coal dust. And bad mining practices. And inadequate sewage facilities. Not good, but not devastating.

In China, you have 1.3 Billion people, massive 21st century levels of industrial production, powerful chemicals of every kind being dumped everywhere, huge areas of deforestation. I could go on and on.

It was a shame when London had "fog" (smog) but China is far beyond that level.

It was a different time. There was neither the understanding of what harm was being done, nor was the technology there to avoid it. Neither can be said about China today. The leadership simply doesn't seem to care.

I disagree. We knew that we were polluting our rivers streams and air. We knew the costs and that the children were dying. Read literature from those days. The pollution was considered an good tradeoff as it is for the Chinese at this time.
