Clinton Rejects Claims State Department 'Silent' on Falcon Lake Murder Case
Fox News ^

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Thursday rejected claims that the State Department has not offered assistance to the widow of a man allegedly shot down by drug lords while on a jet ski trip on the U.S.-Mexico border.

She called the killing a "terrible tragedy" and said, "We are sickened by it."

U.S. Rep. Ted Poe, R-Texas, whose district contains the lake, told FoxNews.com that Tiffany Hartley has not received help from the U.S. Consulate in Mexico to file a complaint against members of the Zeta drug cartel suspected of shooting her husband several weeks ago.

"There seems to be inefficiency on this issue. She shouldn't have to be filing charges" on her own, Poe said, noting that the Mexican authorities were slow to help Hartley, in part because they said she made no official complaint to the proper authorities.

The State Department has also been "blissfully silent" on efforts to convince the Mexican authorities to let U.S. investigators help search for Hartley's body, Poe told FoxNews.com. The department must convince Mexican officials to let the FBI and U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency investigators help conduct the search for Hartley's body and for the culprits, he said.

Poe sent a letter Oct. 4 to Clinton saying helping Hartley recover her husband's body is "the least" the State Department can do.

"We followed up yesterday to see when they were going to respond and they could not respond to our response," Poe said, adding that he hopes to have a reply soon from Clinton, who is traveling abroad right now.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has made similar claims about the State Department's response, or lack thereof.

Yup. Hillary, just like her sleazebag “husband”, is a congenital liar and has lied so much she can no longer differentiate between her lies and reality.

(SO WHAT ARE WE PAYING FOR? WHY HAVE A STATE DEPT AT ALL?)

22,000 people work for the State Department, according to
http://careers.state.gov/general/about-us.html
(Number accessed from website in September 2009)

11,500 Foreign Service employees
7,400 Civil Service employees
31,000 Foreign Service National employees
....

The Foreign Service (FS) is a corps of about 11,500 employees who are dedicated to representing America and responding to the needs of American citizens in other countries. Members of the Foreign Service can be sent to any embassy, consulate, or other diplomatic mission anywhere in the world, at any time, to serve the diplomatic needs of the United States. Terms and conditions of employment in the Foreign Service (FS) are governed by the Foreign Service Act of 1980, as amended, 22 U.S.C.§3901 et seq.

While the Department of State’s Foreign Service employees travel far and frequently, nearly 7,400 Civil Service (CS) employees serve as a stable resource pool in Washington D.C., at Passport Agencies and field offices throughout the United States, and at several Consulates in Mexico. Civil Service employees provide in-depth expertise and continuity in accomplishing all aspects of the Department’s mission and are involved in virtually every function of the Department. Civil Service employees issue passports, compile and analyze overseas reports, provide logistical support to posts, consult with Congress about foreign policy initiatives and policies, and formulate and manage the budget. Unless specifically “excepted” by law, most of the Department’s Civil Service employees are governed by Title 5 of the United States Code (5 U.S.C.) and Title 5 of the Code of Federal Regulations (5 CFR).

In addition, more than 31,000 Foreign Service National (FSN) employees also supplement the personnel requirements of the Department overseas. FSN employees are local residents of the countries in which we maintain diplomatic posts and consulates. They are valued members of our embassy teams, for they provide continuity for the transient American staff and have language and cultural expertise. FSN employment is also governed by the Foreign Service Act of 1980, as amended.

Yeah, the State Dept Twits Tweeted the Mexican govt and begged.

It would take quite a lot of creativity to imagine a more useless gang of noer-do-wells with worthless educations than the critters infesting the State Department.

Oops, forgot - there’s the Department of “Education”.

All the Dem Politicians and even the Republican ones, act like they don't have the latest information technology gadgets at their disposal, nor a telephone.

Apparently they don't have any staff either. No one who could be on top of this from the beginning, and planning the needed aide.

"I have to be there before anything can be done" is just a delaying tactic.

Not quite the response an American should expect.

Perry has said something alright..he has complained about the Feds...to further his election prospects.

Which is fine, and understandable....but it is a strategy from the past.

True Americans want ACTION, not words.

He could make his point better, with both.

Meanwhile, No-Clue-Obama continues to hide under his desk. Perhaps Obama has this event confused with the Iran people wanting help to liberate themselves.

Honest Obama, it’s spilled American blood, not oil, you don’t really need to hide and pretend you give a hoot for as long on this one.

Obama—a failure in all things—
