Barbara Billingsley, who played June Cleaver, the quintessential 1950s sitcom mom on "Leave It to Beaver," and later did a memorable send-up of her white-bread image playing the "jive-talking" passenger in the hit comedy "Airplane!," has died. She was 94.

I have an instinct that she was, in real life, close to the character she portrayed!
Great model, thanks, and my Our Lord shower you, Mrs. Cleaver, with His Infinite Divine Mercy and Saving Love.

I can see the Beaver's mom. Mrs. Cleaver, clear as can be, her smile, perfectly coiffed hair, shirtwaist dress showing off her nice figure in a modest way, and her mid-size high heels and clean, neat apron. The character was no Pollyanna; she had just enough of irony -a great mom. Today's Leftist TV shows glorify the anti-family and characters whose actions and life choices would have brought deep shame on any American family.

In the old sitcoms the characters spoke to one another in a civil tone. At some point, the shouting and insults took over, but I wouldn’t hazard a guess as to when/what show.

My vote for that would be "All in the Family". Which is why I always felt uncomfortable watching it back then and would only do it now and then... Seeing the corrosive results of some of the crap that was bandied about in it keeps me from being interested in wasting a moment of my time watching any reruns of the thing.
My Mom didn't wear pearls and we were probably still just renting TVs (for big news events) at that point so we didn't see that many of the episodes at the time that they were made. But later, when I saw those fairy tales and fables of American life in the 50s and 60s, I recognized that they taught the same life lessons our parents worked to impress on us.
I'm thankful to 'em all. RIP BB

The kind of mom everyone deserves. June Cleaver harkens back to my youth and the days when I actually watched Television shows for entertainment. A sad day for legacy TV watchers everywhere.

Don’t forget her pearls!
One of the finest half hour television shows in history. Anyone who thinks Ward and June were always kind and bland don’t know the show. As Wally grows up on the show Hugh Beaumont’s exasperation with his dopey kid becomes more and more evident.
And Mrs. Cleaver NEVER bought Eddie Haskel’s act.

Seemed like a sweet lady, had a good career and a long life. I hope she went easily, RIP

She delivered one of the funniest lines ever on television, “Ward, don’t you think you were a little hard of The Beaver last night?”
She was a trooper. Bless her soul.
