Finally: George Will vs. Meghan McCain on the tea-party movement
Hot Air ^ | October 16, 2010 | ALLAHPUNDIT

People will goof on Amanpour for booking this, but purely as spectacle, it’s a stroke of genius. Be honest: You’re dying to see how this meeting of the minds played out.

Two key moments. The first comes at around 2:45, when MegMac lays into Christine O’Donnell. For thoughts on that, see MKH’s wry tweet from this morning.

The other starts at around 7:35 and runs through 9:30, when Will replies to her point that the tea party is “intolerant” and losing younger voters rapidly. In fact, it’s The One who’s lost 16 points among college students since last year; tea partiers do skew older demographically, but if the movement was as repugnant to young voters as Meg seems to think, the Democrats shouldn’t be having trouble motivating them to turn out next month.

Will’s correct too, of course, that the tea party’s influence has led the GOP to reprioritize, moving fiscal issues to the top of the agenda while quietly letting hot-button social concerns slide. Whether that’ll be true for much longer is a different matter, though: Most tea partiers are socially conservative and grassroots icons like DeMint are working hard to cultivate that aspect of their politics.

The more overtly socially conservative the TP becomes, the more it risks alienating socially libertarian younger (or older) voters who might otherwise sympathize with its goal of getting America’s fiscal house in order.

But then, that battle to define right-wing factions has been going on forever; all they’re arguing about here is which side, the social cons or libertarians, is ahead when it comes to defining the tea party. Will’s right. For now.

You’re dying to see how this meeting of the minds played out.

This implies that two minds were in play.

Meagan has learned from daddy well. Pretend to be a conservative and then bash the conservative movement at every opportunity and then you can get your mug on T.V.. She is almost as despicable as her father, but unlike him, she doesn’t have any real power. Barry would have been so beatable with a true conservative running against him. Instead the GOP will probably give us another loser like Romney to lose to Barry.

Evidently "extreme" was the talking point for the day on this show. These people, every single one of them on this show, are so blind as to the mood of the people outside of the beltway.

I find it quite amusing that ABC wants the people to take this show seriously whilst having John McCain's daughter as an analyst.

Meghan M. must have been sniffing her mom’s wrinkle cream again. Since when does one need experience to run for office? Thomas Jefferson certainly didn’t think this was a prerequisite to running for, or holding, elected office.

It gets a little tiring hearing my degenerate generation cry all night long about the conservative social values that gave birth to them.

I hear Meghan McCain moo about how she represents my generation, and I can’t help but roll my eyes. Meghan, you represent no one but your own interests.

She's a vision in white which accentuates her back fat rolls as seen at 7:40 on the video

"...the GOP will probably give us another loser like Romney to lose to Barry."

If we let them.

I think it's high time some state other than weird-ass New Hampshire had the first GOP primary.

Texas, for example.

Pose with a Keg that your grandaddy left so you don’t have to work.

Ugh. I hope she watches this playback and realizes that she needs to wear a jacket next time to hide her jelly rolls. She’s following in Daddy’s footsteps. Calling herself a republican and talking and acting like a liberal. She criticizes tea party candidates experience, yet what qualifies her to be a panelist?? What a dingbat.

Is Meagan really a natural dumb blonde, or did she bleach her hair to match her IQ.

Wow! Meghan really is a lard butt, isn’t she?
Those rear angle shots are hard to take.

I do get a laugh over the part where she and others criticize O’Donnell because of her limited experience.

They seem to to have overlooked that factor with Obama.

She wrote a book no one will read and she's a senator's daughter.
What's ironic is that Big M considers the likes of a Perez Hilton someone to behold yet she has the nerve to demean O'Donnell as one not to be taken seriously.

George Will delivers powder puff love taps to another idiot - what is consider a smack down by a RINO is really 50% of what ANY regular reader/writer on FreeRepbulic delivers on any given day. Will is like David Brooks so soft “Man UP” looks like one of those guys in Will and Grace or Friends...weak.

I'm always suspicious of people who come by politics being ‘born on third’ - sorry, but I don't ‘get’ Meghan McCain ... on anything.

Matthew Dowd is yet another sorry example of a faux Republican too, isn’t he? Though I suppose we shouldn’t be surprise since he only converted from the Democrat Party in 1999 to become W’s chief campaign strategist.

Jeesh—we’ve really been infiltrated top to bottom, haven’t we?

Exactly. My first thought within a minute of watching this was that this is just a group of highly insulated people who are flailing around, desperate to figure out what motivates your average American, the same way that anthropologists study the ancient Egyptians or the Maya. They don't have a clue what is going on, and so are just throwing out guesses.
