Sniper Teams to Increase Accuracy with Guided Rounds
Defense Talk ^ | 10/18/2010 | Defense Talk

Sniper teams remain the most lethal force on the battlefield and have been credited with many successful engagements. As effective as sniper teams are however, their accuracy is fundamentally limited by random variables such as changing winds, muzzle velocity dispersions and round-to-round variations. The DARPA EXtreme ACcuracy Tasked Ordnance (EXACTO) program aims to maximize the effectiveness of sniper teams while improving their safety.

Through EXACTO, DARPA is developing a guided round capability in a .50 caliber platform. It is currently intended to provide snipers the capability to engage targets moving at much greater speeds, in tougher environmental conditions such as in high winds and at far longer ranges than currently possible. A guided sniper round would greatly increase accuracy by allowing compensation for environmental effects and target motion while dramatically reducing the engagement timeline.

“Between Iraq and Afghanistan, the need for trained snipers has increased dramatically”, says DARPA program manager Lyndall Beamer. “It’s time we look at how to maximize the utility of these assets and give them the best tools we can.” Along with increased speed and accuracy, EXACTO will improve sniper safety by opening a wide range of viable hide locations for sniper teams. The program aims to achieve all this while maintaining the current two man shooter/observer sniper team and minimizing changes to existing concepts of operations

I have been posting for years that one of the smartest ideas there is is to know where every city official/employee in your community lives. That way if they ever start to go against the general will of the community, you can ask them if their family agrees with this decision. That will turn the lights on bright.

Even the strongest Marxist will say, “Hmmm, I wonder if my family will be alive when I get home tonight? Perhaps I shouldn’t take such extreme measures against these citizens to enforce my wishes.”

WHAT IS A PATRIOT?

PATRIOTS are not "Revolutionaries" trying to overthrow the government of the United States.

PATRIOTS are "Counter-Revolutionaries" trying to prevent the government of the United States from overthrowing the Constitution of the United States. - Unknown Author

That way if they ever start...

Where have you been for the last 90 years?

I agree on the general principle though.

Stay safe.

I’m only in my 60’s and I haven’t seen them do anything that caused you to take up arms against them. The kind of thing I’m talking about is if they tried to enforce a coast to coast martial law or take away our 2nd Amendment.

I don’t care what Massachusetts does. If the people want to live under those kind of rules that’s fine with me. It wouldn’t work out West though.

...or take away our 2nd Amendment.

This was a close one. Just this year.

Seizing 401k's, tampering (overtly) with the election in November, etc...

I think a few of these might cause a few folks to cross a line.

I keep hearing the call "No Fort Sumters!"

I sit there wondering, what about "No more Rudy Ridges", "No more Wacos", "No more Kelos", "No more Alberto Sepulvedas", "No more Kathryn Johnstons", etc...

How many more "no mores" is it gonna take?

How many more “no mores” is it gonna take? is a good question. The Liberals are sure acting as if they want to destroy everything the Founders put together. There’s quite a crowd assembled, a decade younger than I am, who have gathered all the tools necessary to defend the ideas of the originators.

Governor Brewer sure stepped up when she was needed by signing SB 2010. It’s prompted quite a few states to take long needed actions. Let’s hope the next President is watching and listening which way the masses are leaning.

If the GOP doesn’t get their head out of their butt the Tea Party is ready to step up and announce they will become the new Conservative Party.

Or who knows we may just see some secession voting going on before too long.
