The Amazing, Disappearing Democrat Incumbents! (Identity Crisis Hits Democrats)
The Boston Herald ^ | October 19, 2010 | Michael Graham

Will the real incumbent Democrat politician please stand up?

Last week I received a mailing from “Candidate for State Senate” Karen Spilka out in MetroWest. The mailer promises that “As our next state senator [emphasis added], Karen Spilka will protect and create good jobs,” etc., etc.

Now, in what has to be the most bizarre twist in the history of Massachusetts politics, it turns out MetroWest already has a state senator named Karen Spilka. And now there’s this new “candidate” Karen Spilka who apparently wants to become “our next state senator” and replace her.

Wow - what are the odds of that?

And this is really going to blow your mind: The same thing is happening in Charlton too! That’s where, according to yet another SEIU-funded mailing, “candidate Geraldo Alicea” wants to be “our next state representative” in a district represented by incumbent rep . . . Geraldo Alicea!

Cue the “Twilight Zone” music now.

The only difference I can find between the incumbents and the “challengers” is that the incumbents are proud liberal Democrats while these new versions don’t mention their party affiliation at all. Independents? Tea Partiers? Socialist Libertarians? They don’t say.

Obviously there are no “new” candidates here. These are just two of the many Democrat office holders across Massachusetts hiding from their party affiliation and status as incumbents. In addition to this misleading “our next senator” mailing by the SEIU, for example, the MetroWest Daily News reports that none of Spilka’s campaign materials mention that she’s an incumbent Democrat.

Why not?

“We’re running as if we’re running for the first time,” Spilka’s spokesflak said. “We don’t want to coast in on incumbency. We want to get out there and show people Karen’s record.”

Spilka wants us to believe that if everyone knew she’s an incumbent she’d...

If a dim has a republican opponent... the people know who and what the dim is... you cannot hide the stench of brimstone on dims.

Uh, you’re not going to believe this . . .

Actual Reuters headline: “Democrat Frank Says Abolish Freddie and Fannie.”

It just keeps gettin' better! rofl

Great article, Michael. Thanks for posting.

I don’t know if this is a political campaign, or “Invasion Of The Body Snatchers.” Regardless, I’m voting against all incumbents, period.

LOL! Excellent!

While recently visiting an area about an hour north of NYC I was amazed to see so many flags and "Vote All Incumbents Out!" signs in people's yards. Hope they all follow your lead.

I have noticed the same thing out here in California. They must all be using the same consultant.

If they were proud of their records they would run on it. The fact they are not tells us much about them.

Unlike some, I will not vote out an incumbant Republican even if they were scum. The way the system works is the the party with the most members controls the legislative body. If I vote out an incumbant Republican for a new Democrat that is a twofer for the Democrats. I would prefer not to help them that way this year.

This same thing is happening in WA state with state legislature candidates. I look at yard signs I pass and almost without fail, the DemoncRAT one has no (D) or “Democrat” on it. Same with many of the flyers they are mailing out.

I live in No. Texas and you can tell the democrat posters by the lack of party affiliation. The democrats just show their name where the Republicans proudly claim their affiliation.

SEIU is a corrupt taxpayer-funded socialist cesspool. Shut ‘em down.
