Why elitists target Christine O’Donnell
Loyal to Liberty ^ | OCTOBER 18, 2010 | The always brilliant Dr. Alan Keyes

Posted on 10/19/2010 10:49:16 PM PDT by TBP

Judging by the treatment of U.S. Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell in Delaware the elite hacks of the sham two-party system are determined that the outcome of the 2010 election should send a clear message to the grassroots Americans who are reacting against the elite betrayal of their nation and its principles: when it comes to running for office people who believe as they do, and have troubles like theirs, need not apply. They especially want to make it clear that anyone who has had problems making ends meet must consider themselves unqualified to run for public office. Considering the difficulties that many Americans face on account of the current economic situation, this should assure that for the foreseeable future only protected members of the wannabe “ruling class” will have any shot at public office.

Over the weekend, Meghan McCain dutifully scoffed at O’Donnell because “she has no real history, no real success in any kind of business.” She reportedly went on to say that this sets a bad example for her [Meghan McCain's] generation since it implies that “one day you can just wake and run for Senate, no matter how [much of] a lack of experience you have. And it scares me for a lot of reasons…. I just know, in my group of friends, it turns people off because she’s seen as a nut job”.

Of course the truth is that Christine O’Donnell is a pretty well known figure, with a career as an advocate for moral conservative causes that has over the years carried her into positions in several different advocacy organizations, and frequent appearances on a number of well-known media outlets. The notion that she has no qualifications for public office is actually a sly statement of contempt for the conservative views she has consistently advocated over the years. Ironically, it also casts doubt on the judgment of such diverse figures as Haley Barbour, Buzz Aldrin, and David Horowitz, all of whom endorsed her candidacy for the U.S. Senate in 2008 when she ran against then Sen. Joseph Biden.

But of course today Christine O’Donnell is prominently identified with the grassroots reaction against the elite betrayal of America, loosely referred to as the Tea Party movement. The elitist reaction against her is actually meant to put these uppity elements of “hoi polloi” in their place. McCain’s derogatory reference to O’Donnell’s alleged image as “a nut job” translates as the snuffling disdain with which pampered aristocrats dismiss the silly pretensions of “the great unwashed”, haughtily sighing that “such people must be crazy to think that they can ever rise to our level.” It is telling that in an era when the elites pretend to react with horror to the supposed racism and bigotry of those who “cling to their guns or religion”, such deeply un-American class bigotry escapes notice from the censors of inequality.

This bigotry is allowed precisely because it’s un-American. Those who seek to overthrow the sovereignty of the people naturally seek to suppress the stubborn sense of worth that supports everyman’s ability to look power in the eye without timidity while reflexively bending the knee before no one but God. In place of a God-fearing sense of worth they mean to put the self worshiping vanity of materialistic success. Then, as the gatekeepers of access to the fame and fortune by which it is defined, they can manipulate the shallow moods of self-esteem that toss susceptible minds between hope and despair. In this way they seek to reforge the shackles of the mind that, throughout most of human history, enabled the ruthless few the to lord it over many.

It is of course by way of re-instituting this psychology of oppression that the treacherous elite seeks to banish acknowledgment of God and His authority as the source and basis for the claim to human equality. Where equality is known to be God’s gift to all, special treatment cannot so easily be used by some to manipulate and shame all the rest. Where worth is to be judged by standards that place it within the reach of every decent heart and conscience, no gatekeepers to the “Forbidden City” of elite success can claim to be the arbiters of human worth, without whose sanction commoners dare not aspire to lift their head above the main.

All this makes clear the strategic political importance of the great controversy that has all these years raged about the issue of respect for the life of our posterity in the womb. Respect for that purely vulnerable life is the delicate fruit of the acknowledgment that human worth is made by the standards of God’s will, not the self-serving fancies of some ambitious ruling class. Where that acknowledgment is part of everyone’s conscience and consciousness, the psychological oppression that facilitates elite control cannot be sustained on a large scale.

Christine O’Donnell is probably best known for her work in the movement that seeks to restore respect for God’s authority to the laws and public policy of the United States. I am morally certain that this is what the virulent elites really consider to be the fatal flaw in her background. After all, they are almost all of them complicit in the conspiracy of silence that allows Obama to claim the highest political office while adamantly preventing scrutiny of the key details of his background and biography. What Meghan McCain knows of the background of Christine O’Donnell should not frighten her nearly so much as what she, and all the rest of us, do not know about the background of the man now privy to all the commands and secrets on which the very survival of the nation depends.

But the treacherous elite now seek to establish in America the old regime of elite domination. Therefore, they probably take a different view of Obama’s success in holding on to office despite his questionable background. It produces satisfaction rather than fear. Why? Because his elevation dramatically illustrates the elite’s power to fabricate and control the perceived worth of any individual. It sends the message that America’s public and political life is now a “virtual reality”, programmed by elite fiat and beyond the authority of any law or Constitution. They can lift a shadowy puppet from the obscurity of his extremist radical self-obsessions, and morph him into the White House as an eloquent “moderate” who stands for reasonable hope and change.

And they can take an advocate of America’s truly moderate principles of liberty and justice for all and morph her into despised obscurity, all because of her valiantly sacrificial efforts to champion the cause of God determined worth and dignity. Ironically, this is the very cause that gives the right of self-government to the people whose manipulated fear and indifference to truth may allow anti-American elite ambition to destroy her candidacy. Such destruction must therefore also be the fate of the people’s liberty in a world where the mantra that “perception is reality” allows elitist deception to control the paths to power.

Of course there is an antidote to this manipulation. It is to trust in God and in the moral common sense with which He has endowed every human heart. For all the blinding dross of humanity’s self imposed delusions of godhood, that sense of right still quietly gives ears and eyes to conscience. These are eyes that see pass the inevitable missteps that evil seeks to magnify into hopeless emblems of incompetence or madness. These are ears that hear a voice raised, in purity of heart, to speak for all the voiceless ones that on His breath God calls into existence, but which our vain elite consents to murder with indifference in order to buttress their false claim to be the arbiters of life and death for all.

Why should truly sane people heed the elitists’ taunts rather than the evidence of their own consciences? The elite’s self-serving “competence” has brought the nation to the brink of ruin. Their supposed “sanity” has led us to a bankrupt frenzy that now threatens to dissipate the wealth, good faith, and credit built up by generations of struggling Americans no more perfect, and no less worthy than Christine O’Donnell. Such struggling Americans stockpiled the treasury of faithfulness, decency and courage that was the greatest wealth expended on the battlefields that ended American slavery in the 19th century, defeated tyrants and dictators in the 20th century, and carved into the record of human history proof that a people, governed in the final analysis by their respect for God’s law, could produce results from their self-government worthy to inspire the self-respect of all humanity.

Such were the flawed, imperfect people that nonetheless still thought themselves worthy to occupy the highest office in American political life, that of the sovereign people of the United States. Christine O’Donnell is like them. Does that make her unworthy to be a U.S. Senator? People who mean to remain free won’t think so, no matter what the sly, elitist pundits spew.

As usual, Dr. Keyes nails it.

A brilliant analysis of why the elitists hate Christine O'Donnell and people like her (i.e., people like us) and all that she represents.

As usual, Dr. Keyes nails it.

Yep, he always does.

While reading this I was reminded that years ago I worked for a company headquartered in Cambridge, MA. It was owned by old money and run by Harvard grads and the politically connected. During a national sales meeting they decided to honor us riff-raff by holding the annual board of directors meeting at the company with us, each a small shareholder, in attendance. I never saw such an eclectic mix of old money and aging hippy trust fund babies.

During the meeting one of our own had the temerity to nominate another of us to be a member of the board. That nomination was soundly defeated and it was obvious we would never again have the privilege of such an invitation.

Amazingly insightful article by Dr. Keyes. He is sometimes a little hard to absorb, for me, because he covers a lot of ground with most of the things he says and speaks at/to an elevated level. But I gained a lot of insight into his argument style with this article. Thanks for posting it!

Christine deserves to win. Obama deserves to be impeached. Pray for Christine. Her win would ruin the elites decade.

All hands on deck.

We are under heavy fire.

We need EVERY, and I mean EVERY swinging _____ under the current battle circumstances.

Dr. Keyes is right-on here. Some people on FR dont like him, but we have GOT TO UNITE right now behind the Movement and our candidates, such as Christine who is under immense attack. We have not only the Democrat Party to fight, but the whole ELITE MEDIA SYSTEM both domestic and abroad, which will go into overdrive over the next two weeks 24/7 to somehow influence the vote in their favor, in favor of Obama and the Democrat Congress and to whittle down the Patriot lead as much as they can. I personally believe 2010 is our last chance as a Republic...Obama can do THAT MUCH DAMAGE in two years under a Democrat House and Senate.

Eagles UP!

PLEASE NOTE TAGLINE, and also donate to FREE REPUBLIC please!! We need everyone in action!!!

Sounds like the 1988 precinct-meeting "slapdown" I attended, which some of us thought was an open caucus. Then the sold-out precinct chair opened her yap and it went downhill fast. The bluehairs lounging around said nothing while we debated, then moved the question, nominated Bush, and then rolled on out to their waiting Lincoln Continentals. We got mugged. Never had a chance. Manor Bush, how they do things in Yankeeland. Thanks for coming.

What I remember is the quiet contempt. Boy, it was loud.

Very worthwhile, but I gave up on first try, then went back and tackled it again and mastered it. Now I am pleased I did. I went tsee him speak in person years ago, an he is great speaker, really understands economics.

In this particular article, he stayed on one topic (whereas my general impression of him is that he ranges quite widely) long enough for me to follow him...usually he loses me. He kind of has this style where he seems to assume that if you are listening to him in the first place, you accept his foundational dozen or so premises. That’s only a mild criticism...he’s obviously an incredibly intelligent man.

You are so right AiT....the next 2 weeks are very critical and the lashing out of the elite overlords will be very extreme....this is article is vintage Alan Keyes and very good. Let’s remember that Keyes saw the danger but the GOP had no candidate to run against Obama for the IL US Senate seat but Keyes went to Chicago and effectively hammered the chosen One in debate. He is a very brave man.

Has anyone noticed that the DNC has targeted ALL Republican women? I think NOW and others are scared that, if the Republican Party was taken over by women, the Democrats would lose a sizable voting block.

YOU...ARE...THE...GREATEST!!! thanks for making it happen.

now is not the time for us, any of us, to armchair general, or to prematurely celebrate, but really get into play, in whichever way we can, no matter how small or prominent a role, for the next two weeks, for various House/Senate/Governor and local campaigns.

I would like to dissent. Though I usually agree with Dr. Keyes on the issues, and voted for him in the primary the first time he ran for Prez, I think he is a marginal and counter-productive influence on the conservative movement now. We should get involved in primaries and support the most conservative candidate we can who has some chance of winning, as conservatives have been all over the country. But Keyes’s “denounce nearly everyone” strategy makes him seem looney to too many people...
