More than 400 pieces of personal property from Bernard Madoff and Ruth Madoff, including a diamond engagement ring and a Steinway grand piano, will be sold during a live and online auction in New York next month by the U.S. Marshals Service.

The property was forfeited and seized in connection with the criminal prosecution of Bernard Madoff. The proceeds from the auction will be used to compensate the victims of his multibillion-dollar Ponzi scheme.

That is one beautiful ring. The clarity of the stones is amazing.

Could they possibly bounce the Steinway off his head before selling it off?

Mrs. Leverlilly: "But that's a priceless Steinway!"
Inspector Clouseau: "Not anymore."

What will the Fed. tax rate be on the “Income” of those receiving funds from the sales?

What percent will the Fed. keep as a handling charge?

"Ruth Madoff’s diamond engagement ring features a 10.54-carat VS2-clarity, F-color emerald-cut diamond set in a platinum mounting flanked by a pair of .90-carat VS-clarity, F-color baguettes. It could retail for about $700,000, a Palm Beach jeweler said."

I'm probably in the minority here, but I don't regard Madoff with the disdain others do. Not when we see the goings on with the inside the Beltway crowd, including the Federal Reserve Bank, and virtually all of the state capitols these days.

Sure, he's a bad apple but who did more damage (for example) to the nation - Madoff or the folks at Moody's who rated all those junk mortgage-backed securities and other derivatives as triple-A?

ABC NEWS Ruth Madoff has been out on the town in New York City this summer, sporting newly dyed red hair and offering no apologies for the thousands of victims in her husband’s multi-billion dollar Ponzi scheme. “Oh my God,” Ruth said when she was approached by ABC News as she left an outdoor café in midtown New York. She said nothing when asked if she had anything to say to her husband’s victims, none of whom will ever recover all the money they lost.
