Obviously Benchim has never been a teacher! Teaching is one of the HARDEST jobs he'll never have. How is the transmission of knowledge to the next generation, plus socializing them, and in many cases giving them the only understanding adult they have in their lives NOT a "real job"?

You have, at least in NYC, up to 34 kids in a high school class, which is way too many. That means kids are sitting cheek to cheek, no spare seats to move troublemakers to, easy to cheat off each others' tests, and too many kids to give much personal attention during the 43 minute period. Additionally, all the research data clearly shows that smaller class sizes give better results.

As far as "licensed disciplinarians who pound the crap out of some unruly kids ass with total immunity from suit", well DREAM ON, buddy. Do you think that a pounding would result in better behavior? When a lot of the kids are pretty immune to pounding, getting plenty of it at home from abusive out-of-control parents? Is that your best idea of how to reach kids, Mr. Neantherthal? You even look cross-eyed at a kid in a NYC classroom, you are hauled up on disciplinary charges, and the kids all LIE about the terrible thing the teacher said or did to them. NOTHING happens to them whatsoever when their claims are proved false, but meanwhile, they have ruined the careers of some of the most dedicated teachers you'll ever see.

Your wholesale denigration of teachers and your crude superficial "solution" clearly delineate you as a cretin among cretins, fella. Keep your day job, leave educational matters to professionals.

You can’t believe the difference that would make in 1 HOUR!!! I was raised in Texas in to 50s and 60s. There were NO discipline problems — ZERO. If you screwed up (as I did) you met the assistant principal and a football coach (usually the line backer coach) None of this call the parents first crap. You stood on a red tile in the main hall way of the school, It made you a man . When that board with the holes drilled in it hit you ass you lost consciousness. And if you got two swats you saw the white light of the Lord Jesus. we had 3000 in our high school and they all heard the POP. But by God you never did that again. Get real.Get off this liberal crap that has destroyed our education and made these “American idol” watchers out these dumb idiots. the system has done a bad job in America and you know it.
