NPR Ends Analyst’s Contract After Comments on Muslims (Juan Williams)
New York Times ^ | October 20, 2010

Posted on 10/20/2010 8:45:07 PM PDT by La Lydia

NPR has terminated its contract with Juan Williams, one of its senior news analysts, after he made comments about Muslims on the Fox News Channel. NPR said in a statement that it gave Mr. Williams notice of his termination on Wednesday night. The move came after Mr. Williams, who is also a Fox News political analyst, appeared on the “The O’Reilly Factor” on Monday. On the show, the host, Bill O’Reilly, asked him to respond to the notion that the United States was facing a “Muslim dilemma.” Mr. O’Reilly said, “The cold truth is that in the world today jihad, aided and abetted by some Muslim nations, is the biggest threat on the planet.”

Mr. Williams said he concurred with Mr. O’Reilly.

He continued: “I mean, look, Bill, I’m not a bigot. You know the kind of books I’ve written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.”

Mr. Williams also made reference to the Pakistani immigrant who pleaded guilty this month to trying to plant a car bomb in Times Square. “He said the war with Muslims, America’s war is just beginning, first drop of blood. I don’t think there’s any way to get away from these facts,” Mr. Williams said.

NPR said in its statement that the remarks “were inconsistent with our editorial standards and practices, and undermined his credibility as a news analyst with NPR.”

The public radio organization said it thanked him for many years of service. Mr. Williams did not immediately respond on Wednesday night to an e-mail seeking comment...

And here I thought those Liberal NPR types were open minded, and tolerant of all points of view.

I wonder if this wasn’t a condition of Soros’ $1.8 million gift to NPR. Mara Liason better mind her PC manners.

In other News...

George Soros just publicly gave NPR 1 million dollars to “buy journalists” and today released a press statement that the only way to shut up Glenn Beck is to attack (boycott, etc.) Fox News.

So it follows that the regular NPR people showing up on Fox have their days numbered. It just has to be done gradually so as to not get the attention of the lib sheep.

Well, this clarifies things. Center-left Williams (he seemed to support Obama, but once in a while supports Republican ideas) gets fired from NPR for straying from the PC party line. Amazing, but is it really THAT surprising??

Of course the journ-o-lista meme is that the 9-11 attackers were radicals not representative of the religion or Muslims in general.

Well, Juan Williams has a perfect opportunity to defend himself by dusting off old polls - probably Pew polls - taken not long afterward - showing wildly enthusiastic support for bin Laden in the Muslim world.

O’Reilly will have Juan on tomorrow night, I’ll bet. If he mealymouths or rationalizes, he deserves it. If he defends his honor, they he can get some respect.

I really like Juan even though I don’t agree with a lot of his views. I’m so fed-up with political correctness especially when it comes to Muslims.

Really objective journalism at NPR.
Good thing we help support it with taxpayer dollars.

NPR (National Propaganda Radicals) has an extremely loose relationship with the truth. Not surprising that the propaganda ministry at NPR would fire Williams when he spoke the truth. Their tax dollars need to be yanked.

An earlier thread about Issa/Rush was discussion about what had to be defunded, and I believe Leftist Public Broadcasting Corporation has gotta be one of the priorities although NOT necessarily near the top of the list with so much more heinous Leftist mischief to correct.

Maybe Juan will start saying what he really believes and not what NPR demands that he say. He has slipped a couple of times in the past and had to get back in line.

NPR is another Govt. funded garbage dump that needs to be eliminated...costs way to much money for no more than they contribute to the national scene. We don’t need left wing propaganda at such a large price tag.

I am so BLASTED ANGRY that our tax dollars fund this crap. NPR and NPT are wholly owned by the government and public donations but do NOT ADVERTISE that their controllers are all DEMOCRATS. I am furious about it.

He’s not liberal enough for Soros’ NPR?

If the GOP wins Congress, they need to totally defund NPR

"There is nothing more painful to me … than to walk down the street and hear footsteps and start thinking about robbery, then look around and see somebody white and feel relieved." — the Reverend Jesse Jackson, as quoted in US News, 3/10/96

I guess Jesse won't be allowed on NPR, either.
