On Special Report last night, Juan made a great point during a discussion of Merkel's statement about "multiculturalism" not working. He said--paraphrasing--that it is ironic that Europeans have often mocked the US for its tradition of assimilating immigrants into its culture by having them learn English and see themselves more as Americans than members of a particular cultural or national group.

As Juan pointed out, Europe has not, for the most part, encouraged assimilation, and now has large populations of immigrants who live in isolated communities and evidence little desire to see themselves as citizens of the nation in which they live. And--as Juan also pointed out--they are now realizing the dangers these populations pose to the survival of their way of life.

Bet that did not sit well with NPR, either.

Juan is a liberal who often points out this nation's shortcomings. But--unlike Obama--he is NOT ashamed to be called an American.

I just hope he's not ashamed of being fired by NPR--and sees that action for what it is: craven cowardice masquerading as "political correctness."

One reason I believe Juan is a pro American liberal is that he is an immigrant from Panama. I've met many Americans who could be construed as "african-american" but do not see themselves as that because they consider themselves Americans first as they have immigrated here from Countries that are less than par so they can have a better life here and they actually love it here. They can work hard, 24 7 if necessary, and live like a King.
