Scott Murphy won this seat in a 2009 special election to replace the Senate-bound Kirsten Gillibrand. This year the GOP's Chris Gibson, a retired Army Colonel, will try to put the seat back in Republican hands. Gibson, who holds a PhD from Cornell University, will focus his campaign on jobs, the economy, and the ballooning federal deficit.
