Scott Murphy won this seat in a 2009 special election to replace the Senate-bound Kirsten Gillibrand. This year the GOP's Chris Gibson, a retired Army Colonel, will try to put the seat back in Republican hands. Gibson, who holds a PhD from Cornell University, will focus his campaign on jobs, the economy, and the ballooning federal deficit.

Funding is up to date as of the end of September. Murphy has spent a lot of money on this race and still has Gibson at a 2 to 1 disadvantage.
