They probably just used a SoCal-based copter similar to the one used at the White House.

Negative. There is a specific team for carrying the Pres. They are transported inside c-5's if not short distance hops. Plus, the crews go for maintenance and all get as per diem allowance and get to be away from home alot!

They’ve got multiple sets of crews with sets of helicopters, presidential limos and support vehicles.

They just leap-frog each other accross the US to wherever the President is going next.

The equipment they used in San Francisco yesterday is probably now headed to Obama’s next stop...

The C-5s are no longer used for the presidential detail, they opted for the C-17s. Saw it on a show about Air Force One yesterday.

Wow, I guess that makes sense as to security arrangements.

It seems a terrible waste to transport the special copters for a campaign run. (In fairness, I bet that GOP presidents have done the same.)
