Not to be outdone by the Republicans when it comes to technology and data-mining, Barack Obama has launched a new “Commit to Vote Challenge” Facebook application. You can access it through the Barack Obama website ...

KEYWORDS: app; facebook; vote
Warning! Do not propagate the "Commit to Vote" Facebook app. It looks harmless, like you're encouraging all your friends to vote, but really you're just exposing your Facebook profile data, and the profile data of your friends, to hostiles.

I’ve been thinking of taking down my FB page. Maybe it’s time.

“You can access it through the Barack Obama website”

I would NEVER go to an Obozo website, or DU.
I do not have a condom big enough for my computer.

YOWZER!!! THANK YOU for the warning. Data-miners suck, whether rats or RINOs or even Republicans...

Well right, but it came to my Facebook page anonymously, and didn’t give an obvious clue as to it’s Obamic origins. There’s quite a flurry of activity right now on Facebook, many conservative people inadvertently replicating it to their friends, and others trying to warn everybody to shut it down. What a mess!

I don’t think you’re right. They have to tell you if they’re doing this and I inadvertently clicked on it and it went to an outside website. I think you’re wrong. The bottom line is that when you are on the internet, you have little control. I choose not to obsess about it. Life’s too short.

Another good reason for not allowing unknown programs to access your account data.

I think Forbes is right. The outside website is an Obama-controlled domain, and the app asks you to recruit all your friends. If you don’t realize the scam, it’s very easy to cooperate with. Forbes is right.

This has been an ongoing problem with Facebook.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that 10 popular Facebook applications have been transmitting users’ personal identifying information to dozens of advertising and Internet tracking companies. The newspaper said today that the breach also includes users who set all their information to be completely private. And in some cases, it says, the apps provided access to friends’ names.

Just the other day a Facebook friend sent me an apps IQ challenge. I wrote back and informed my friend that I never click on ANY apps on FB.

I received a letter a short while later. My friend informed me that he didn’t send that challenge.

There are various ways in which Facebook will try to trick you into exposing your FB profile info., etc., and to click on the apps would have been one.

I've been battling the scaremongers over on FB all day on this one. This is BS, the information gathered is the same type of crap everyone has already given up a dozen times today, especially if you're on FB to begin with. IP Address, Browser Type, a cookie on your machine and (if you allow it) access to your friends list.

SO WHAT?

Does any thinking adult believe they've not already given that much up hundreds of times in the past month?

Seriously, I had no idea there were so many chicken little types in the conservative movement. Are there any thinking adults actually scared by this? Seriously?

Personally I've had a blast today using the Democrats own application against them, I include a clear anti-Democrat message in my sharing of this app with all 600+ on my friends list and I even used their own "report a problem" page to tell them what I'm doing.

Having a great time here tweaking their punk@ss noses, these Obama nut jobs who think they own the internet.

Don't be scared folks, have some fun and help spread the word.

Not one Democrat should be returned to the House or Senate, NOT ONE.

I’ve been thinking of taking down my FB page. Maybe it’s time.

I have a Facebook page, so that I can access Facebook on occasion if I so desire. Anyone can mine all the data they like off my FB page -- everything about my profile from name to DOB to even gender is completely phony, LOL. And the email address I used is of course, a throwaway email address.

Sneaky apps shouldn’t give aid, comfort, and free data to our enemies. Active voter databases allow a political team to focus their efforts and get better results at a lower cost. This app was a trojan horse for Obama’s data collectors, not a sincere, bipartisan encouragement to vote. It was like giving them free money in the form of reduced effort. Give no help to the enemy of everything we hold dear, not even to spite them. This is war, and logic rather than emotion should guide our actions.

“My friend informed me that he didn’t send that challenge.”

Yes he did. He just didn’t know it because he had a malware infection.
