U.S.-South Korea aircraft carrier drill called off

The United States and South Korean militaries have postponed an aircraft carrier drill in the Yellow Sea ahead of next month's G20 summit in Seoul following strong criticism from China, local media reported on Monday.

Beijing had said the Pentagon's plans to send the nuclear-powered carrier USS George Washington to the joint exercise -- set to take place between China and the Korean peninsula -- threatened long-term damage to Sino-U.S. relations.

South Korean government and military sources told local media that the decision to cancel the drill, which was scheduled to take place late this month, was made to avoid creating problems with China and North Korea ahead of the G20 summit on November 11-12.

The allies made the decision "in a bid not to unnecessarily antagonize neighboring countries" before the summit, Yonhap news agency quoted a government source as saying.

The United States and South Korea have said their joint exercises are aimed at warning North Korea, which they blame for the March torpedoing of a South Korean navy ship in the Yellow Sea.

Local media said there would be no drills involving U.S. aircraft carriers this year.

The U.S. military said a precise date had never been set for the joint exercise off the west coast, and it was continuing discussions about the timing of the aircraft carrier drill.

Rear Admiral Yang Yi, a senior researcher at the National Defense University in Beijing, told Reuters in August that the exercise would have been provocatively close to China's political and economic heartland.

United States showing weakness in the face of China demands. This is very bad news and a terrible precedent set by this impotent Obama administration.

So, who made this decision? The article implies the South Koreans delayed the date. The Navy is saying they are still mulling over the date of the exercise. The incompetent hand of obambi, or the dog like obedience to the chinee t bill holders. Our duty to S.Korea is being ignored- big surprise from this moron. Why be delicate- except for the money. Why don’t we default and let the chinese freak out.

China called and said, “Tut, tut, you silly Americans. You can’t afford to play with your toys.”

China: “Don’t do that.”

America: “Yessir, Massa, yessir, right away sir!”

Considering the slice of the US debt that China currently holds, that answer is absolutely appropriate. [/sob]

The next place China will tell us to stay out of is the South China Sea.

China will start increasing its harassment of commercial fishing fleets from Vietnam, Philippines and Malaysia.

Then they will tell us to stay out of the Sea of Japan and the Yellow Sea, and so on.

And pretty soon we’re not a Pacific Rim power anymore. We are a de-nutted, eastern pacific “power”. We will be too scared to “offend” China.

When, even today with the proper willpower we could turn military bases in China into glass wastelands. The notion that trading partners don't go to war is an antiquated one. Debt is making us a slave to china. The answer to debt is eliminate the debt holder. One way would be to default, but that would play into china's desire to be a world currency. Wonder if we could get the Japanese interested in option one, all abhorrence of the past set aside. Haven't they had enough of China (though I understand Japan ships deliver their goods).

There was a time, not long ago, that we would have sent two or even three carriers, just to show our force and unwillingness to be bossed around by Communists.

I really miss my country.

Click on pic for past Navair pings.

Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
The only requirement for inclusion in the Navair Pinglist is an interest in Naval Aviation.
This is a medium to low volume pinglist.

Imagine what happens when the Chinese decide to invade Taiwan!

The Chinese don’t approve OUR exercises, maybe the ChiCom (Chicago Communist) 0b0z0 will be ordered to help the ChiComs invade Taiwan.

With the large US debt owned by ChiComs, they don’t need to fire a shot, just tell 0b0z0 what to do with our military.
