We still find good stuff at our local Goodwills although the prices have gone up. Occasionally we luck out with brand new merchandise stores have donated.

I definitely agree on the (lack of) courtesy in driving these days.

Also, was at McDonalds around 11 this morning when a high school kid started yelling profanities at the top of his lungs. Have never encountered anything quite like that before inside of a business establishment. He didn’t seem to be angry at the food or employees — not sure what his problem was. But he was not concerned about what effect the outburst would have on other customers, especially young kids, that’s for sure.

I frankly, am sick of the people who move INTO California. If you stop moving in, we have a better chance to get a hold on things.

Almost everyone here is from somewhere else. Stay out!

I don’t know how true it is, but I’ve read where gang members are joining so they can put the training they get to use for their gangs and train their fellow gang members when their enlistments are up.

Exactly. They never can understand that their “fiscal consevatism” minus social conservatism leads to exactly the situations they fled.

That”s different from the hard core gang members who reportedly joining in order to get training which they return to share with their gangs, if the reports be true.

We need to bring the state of Jefferson idea back. The very Northern counties of Cali combined with the very Southern counties of Oregon.

Then the left coast can either become the state of La La Land or roll up Los Angeles and San Francisco into Norte Mexico. I avoid even driving into those two cities. Might as well be driving into Mexico.

The Central Valley can become its own state and take Sacramento with it.

Then that would leave San Diego and the IE. Conservative Libertarian with just a handful of Fruits and Nuts.

Isn’t going to happen ‘cause whether we get Brown or Whitman the pandering will go on.

Same choice as we had with Arnold. Either the State collapses in 5 years or we get a 5 year delay of execution. Either way this suckers coming down. The California I arrived to in 1985 is nothing like the current California. Back then the Aerospace Industry was big business and the silicon valley high tech sector was cranking upward. It is absolutely amazing witnessing how far the State has fallen. The current speed of collapse is breath taking. I am just hoping to get out alive, at this point in time. As the song says, you can check out, but you can never leave.

"People leaving CA are like people leaving NJ and other NEw states - they are locust. They want things to be like back home and ruin those states. I have a few idiot relatives from the NE who have moved to SC/NC."

"Every American instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment, but liberals do not. They move to an area and multiply until every governmental resource is consumed. The only way libs can survive is to spread to another State.

There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. "

Apologies to you "Matrix" fans out there.

The culture of courtesy has been dead longer than that.

It died before I left CA for good in 1995.

It died before I left CA for good in 1995.

Died during the LA Riots in 1992. Was a big shock to the Aerospace Industry. Some people were shot and killed just trying to get home from Northrup. This was followed around the same time by the collapse of the Cold War. Then later the dot com collapse during the last few Go Go Clinton years sealed the Golden Bears fate. Cannot recover from losing Aerospace and the Tech Sector. It was inevitable that Real Estate would eventually collapse. And the contagion spread to the rest of the US. The feds tried to control the collapse by allowing Mexicans to enter in droves and take our liar loans. Still time for parts of America to inoculate, but California is finished. IMHO.

I left in 1973...before the song.

My husband used to talk about leaving but he has finally quit. As a matter of fact 2 weeks ago we decided to start looking for a couple of acres to buy sometime next summer. I don’t want to leave. I want to stay to fight the SOBs any way I can. I love it here. I hate the politicians.

Strange that you invoked the song 'Hotel California', by the Eagles, to describe the situation in California.

See post #59. Linda Ronstadt put together a group of studio musicians to provide the music on one of her tours. That group of musicians (with an exception) went on to become the "Eagles" that we know and love today.

"Formed in Los Angeles, California, USA, in 1971, this highly successful unit was formed by musicians drawn from singer Linda Ronstadt's backing group."

The land and weather are beautiful. Always will be. And there are still some truly beautiful people here, but they are all slowly leaving. Right now Californian politics is half way to Mexico. We have the typical third world political corruption that will eventually lead to all out gang warfare. The city of Oakland seems to be the leading indicator.

They apparently knew California very well, although their perspective was probably from the left side of the spectrum. And they probably thought that leftist politics would eventually fix the Hotel California problem they saw back then. Unfortunately, the leftist politics were a big part of the problem. And they only made the situation worse. Perhaps they were slightly more libertine though and were hoping for eventual freedom. But just like the Marxist who were hoping their ideology would eventually wither away the state, they eventual will end up with a Stalin. Or in the Kalifornian short run, probably a local gang banger asking for protection money.
