Two Syrian children may be the youngest couple ever to get engaged.
Khalid, 5, popped the question to Hala, who's just 3, "of his own free will," following a whirlwind holiday romance.

Let’s see if he went big on the ring, or cheaped-out.

“The families of both children are not only taking the betrothal seriously, they insist the school children are in love and are already planning a wedding for 10 years down the road — when Khalid will be 15 and Hala 12.”
Ick!
Ah yes, all cultures are equally good.
and what religion do these lovebirds belong to? Nope..dont tell me, it requires riding horse buggies in the countryside, right? (s/)..seriously, the parents are FN sick.
This is shocking, he is almost twice her age. Plus if you apply the accepted formula for a trophy wife (half your age plus 7) he should be looking for a 9 or 10 year old.
In the eyes of the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH), in another 4 or 5 years she would be considered rapeworthy.
And they call this news???? Shouldn’t CBS be spending time reporting on, oh say the corruption going on at all levels of the courts right now?
This is Globe material. Sheesh, why do people continue to even visit, let alone watch, this “mainstream” garbagie???
“I’ll show you mine, if you show me yours!”
while I disagree with the whole concept at least you don’t have her being betrothed to a 50 year old as is known in that region. Small favors I guess.
Jeez! Talk about a May-December romance!
It will never work; the age difference is too vast.
I was engaged when I was five. A couple of times. However, nobody actually took it seriously. Grown-ups were not idiots back then, I guess.
I suspect the boy is someone his parents wish to indulge his every whim, and the girl is someone her parents are willing to pawn off early, particularly if it means a good connection to a higher status family.
I seriously doubt we’ll hear of their marriage down the road, but who knows? It might work out.
I know a guy who’s like, mid 70s or so. He has an ancient home movie that his dad took back when the son was like 4 or 5 years old (surprisingly to me, there were people doing home video back as early as 1932 or so.)
In the old home movie, the little boy can be seen happily playing with a little girl friend.
Yep, you guessed it... the two little friends grew up, married each other, and now have been happily married for well over 50 years.
How do they consumate the marriage. I don’t remember have a erection at the age of 5.
Just in time for hormonal hyper-sexuality. Hala better run.
They are adorable kids.
