. . . there was ONE BUG in Bloomingdales, . . .
My son is a professional exterminator. He says that if you see one bug, you likely have thousands and, depending on the species, could have millions.

Sadly, they don’t come to the mattress until you’re in it. The most elusive thing about bedbugs is they hide somewhere else, wait till you’re asleep, march over to your bed and attack. The secret is to find their nest.

Have you ever stayed in NY? I have many times, and each time was a wonderful experience. I love to travel and have stayed at many hotels and never had a problem.

I hate hotels.....They're filthy, full of cooties, skavies, and foreigners carrying other diseases, not to mention the illegal help loot the rooms.... I'll never stay in another hotel....Ever.
So what do you do when you travel? For some reason when I am overnight away from home I find a hotel to be a sane choice for sleeping, bathing and eating.

I’d think the rats & roaches would already deter someone who doesn’t HAVE TO go to NYC from going; what a sewer. A friend of mine works there, and he says you can always tell when they’re filming a movie (besides the streets being blocked off): too many of the extras are “white”. You’d think you were in Edmonton...

I saw how absolutely non-white (at least what most of us would think of as white) NYC is when I visited there several years back. It seems like literally EVERYONE has jet black hair, and some shade of brown or olive skin. Every now and then you see a rather tall, slender, attractive woman with blond hair walking by, and you realize she is a model. The few other white people I saw I overheard speaking German or with a Midwestern accent, and knew they were tourists. I still remember a couple of natives chuckling loudly when a white guy walked past them, exclaiming excitedly as if they had seen an exotic foreigner, "He must be from Iowa!"

That photo! Reminds me of the way one of my legs looked (back side of calf) after first night on a cruise ship back in ‘06. So itchy and red — drove me nuts. I thought they were mosquito bites. Maybe not?????????????? There was no talk of bedbugs at that time but they certainly could’ve been.
Took me three weeks to get rid of those things totally. UGH.

They certainly never broadcast the fact. I believe that is why it is a “sanctuary city”: Americans don’t want to live there, less of them even work there since the financial industry’s permanent “contraction”, and if they didn’t open the gates to just about everyone it would be a ghost town.
I’m not even knocking the people there; they are hardly sitting on their asses. Many work long days as taxi drivers, in restaurants, etc.; they exist at a third-world level to make ends meet, because I’d guess it is still better than where they came from.

In the last 5 years I've had no desire to visit NYC when on the annual visit with the LI relatives. The last time in Manhattan it felt like a galaxy a few light years away. I would rather not contribute a dime to such a craphole with it's petty WS criminals and tyrant mayor. FuNY, a state full of rats!

Actually bedbugs are resistant to DDT. There have been many threads about this and there is plenty of info about what IS effective against bedbugs. But, alas, the EPA won’t let them use those chemicals either.

RV...By the way, I do very little traveling nowadays...No need to, too expensive, and traveling plain sucks....I’d rather go to the dentist than a freaking airport....

Why NY? - maybe lack of proper state or city hygiene codes or failure to actually enforcement of those health codes. Bribes to not enforce health codes have been common in big cities. It used to be illegal in Texas to sell a used mattress - not sure now.
NY state and NY city have large populations of illegal aliens from all over the world. Hey - there are Muslim men who have multiple wives living in NY - seems enforcement of laws are kinda lax so why not have bed bugs - no enforcement of health regulations equals problems in all areas.
