In a week, Americans go to the polls. But it might as well be happening today. For -- barring major news events or extraordinarily damaging revelations about individual candidates that cause probable voters to rethink their choices in unprecedented fashion -- the 2010 cake is baked, it's out of the oven and it's cooling in an undisclosed location.
You wouldn't know this from the hyperactive political press, which now screams minute by minute at readers and viewers from multiple outlets, from traditional perches to Facebook to Twitter.
Any spin, no matter how ludicrous, can get 10 or 15 seconds' attention -- and right now the media are transmitting spin about how the election is up for grabs.
Over the weekend, for example, ABC News' The Note informed me breathlessly that a "women's voting expert" named Paige Gardner insists unmarried women "now are performing at about the same levels that they were in 2008, in terms of coming back to progressive Democrats." This conclusion is nothing more than a patently ideological assertion by a left-wing activist, but it got some attention all the same.
Disregard all such nonsense and spare yourself a pointless roller-coaster ride. We've had 18 months of data points from many different sources that all tell the same story: Americans who vote have radically changed direction when it comes to which party they prefer.

The Post forgets to consider the Voter Fraud that is undoubtedly occurring now and will occur in many states come November 2nd. These polls and stories are merely cover for the Dem “machine” that will be out in full force. When even MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” states that a close vote in PA will surely result in Ed Rendell manufacturing the necessary votes to keep the state blue, then you know what’s brewing.
While the may be voter fraud, you do have to HOPE that the elections stay clean.
There is a cell somewhere with Slippery Ed Rendell’s name on it; we just haven’t found it yet. Did j’know that he is a Fox favorite? Santa Claus in the off season.
Praise God!!! Finally an encouraging word. I read the article but I refuse to read any comments, on this thread, lest all the pessimists remind us to not get our hopes up because the Dems are going to steal this election. Nope, I’ll go with the encouraging word today, not the discouraging words.
Have a nice day everyone.
I posted the article yet I am one of the FReepers who have been warning about stolen elections.
Let’s be encouraged but never forget that we are being opposed by THUGS and GANGSTERS.
Ronnie said it best; Trust, but verify. I volunteer as a poll watcher and so should those who are afraid of the left engaging in voter fraud. Instead of typing your time away here, get out and work the polls.
The Dems here in Florida have started a stupid little campaign of poll watchers wearing caps with “Voting Rights Attorney” on them. Our local REC got into a wad over this tactic so I just suggested that we now issue hats to all of our poll watchers with “Voting Rights Citizen” on them. If the left has a problem with our hats, just offer to take it off when they do and deposit them outside the building.
We have to realize their childish acts are simply that. Since I never engage in an argument with a juvenile, it is easier to simply outthink them. Level the playing field on their terms (or at least let them think so) and they will have to dream up another stupid idea.
I would love to work the polls but I will be in Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa from Friday until at least Tuesday PM receiving my 3rd course of methotrexate for a malignancy on my cerebellum.
But while I am there (and the treatment HAS to be done on an in-patient basis) I bring up the subject of Obamacare with as many hospital staffers as possible and, believe me, the plan is DESPISED by nearly every medical professional I talk to and I certainly urge each and everyone of them to vote.
Hopefully, by 2012 I will be capable of doing more than “typing” and running my mouth. For now, that will have to do.
It wasn’t directed at you personally but a call out to everyone that it is now in our hands. God bless you on your treatments coming up. I have been there with my parents and my wife so my heart is with you my FRiend.
Maybe when you are better, you can join me at the next race we partake in at Sebring. Was there last weekend.
Thank you, I won’t take it personally.
Just to clarify, I’ve been actively participating in politics since 1960 and was a Goldwater Kid in ‘64. I’m not a slacker if I can help it.
The treatments have cleared up 90% of the problem...the doctors are VERY conscientious and seem intent on using “overkill” to get rid of the bad cells we’ve been fighting since ‘06 once and for all.
I certainly appreciate all prayers.
Good on ya, matey.
